Single-family versus multi-family options in Ravenswood
Ravenswood offers a good mix of single-family housing, condos and rentals. “There are definitely renters. Within the housing stock is a mix of single families and two-flats and three-flats, then interspersed, you’re going to find pockets of bigger buildings with 12 to 16 units,” says broker Dorie Westmeyer with Charles Rutenberg Realty. Most apartment and condo complexes are low-rise brick buildings, with some duplexes also available in historic Victorians that blend in with Ravenswood’s American Foursquares and cottages.
The mix of single-family homes and multi-family housing makes the parking situation tricky in Ravenswood. Street parking is the go-to for condos, duplexes and apartments. Single-family homes often have detached two-car garages located off alleyways behind homes. Some multi-family units also have small parking lots back there, with enough space for four to six vehicles.

Ravenswood's affordability compared to nearby communities
Ravenswood’s housing stock offers a good balance of affordability and high-end housing options. Older low-rise condos price between the low $200,000s and the low $400,000s. Meanwhile, single-family homes, newer condos and duplexes range from the mid $700,000s to around $1.8 million. Overall, Ravenswood’s median housing price is about $550,000, which is higher than neighboring communities like Irving Park, Lincoln Square and Sheridan Park. However, it is also lower than other desired northside neighborhoods, like Andersonville and Lakeview.
Living just steps from Malt Row
Malt Row is a collection of a dozen local breweries shared between Ravenswood, North Center and Bowmanville. Most of them are along Ravenswood Avenue, within walking distance of homes. Demo Brewing Company brightens the dining space with plenty of hanging plants. Is/Was Brewing takes a French-Belgian brewing approach with their saisons. Cultivate by Forbidden Fruit specializes in botanical brews, but also has a comprehensive menu with plenty of entrée options. VIN312 Winery is one of the only wineries on the strip.
