East of the Hoover Reservoir, Harlem is a quiet, rural township made up of farmlands and undeveloped green space. It's known as a peaceful community with well-ranked schools and low crime. "It's quiet out here — everybody's really kind and laid back," says Adriana Stidham, Harlem resident and Realtor with Red 1 Realty. The CAP Index Crime Score lists Harlem at a 1 out of 10, the safest possible score. Though the area has flown under the radar for many years, that appears to be changing. "When the area was established, nobody wanted it," says Marty Ackermann, a broker with Re/Max consultant group who has lived there for over 50 years. "It was a diamond in the rough — a well-kept secret." In recent years, investors have been acquiring land and improving infrastructure, eager to develop Harlem into a tech-friendly community. "They're taking trees down, putting water and sewers in," says Ackermann. "Eventually, the whole look of the place is going to be another New Albany."
