Hearthstone is a small but cozy neighborhood in southeast Dayton. Residential streets offer a blend of American Foursquares, Cape Cods, bungalows and ranch-style houses, most of which date from the early to mid-20th century. Streets are defined by midsize yards, mature trees and private driveways. The area primarily has homeowners, but many starter homes are also budget-friendly for renters. Linden Avenue is the community's main commercial hub, which many residents can walk to from their homes. It's home to local favorites like Hasty Tasty Pancake House and Elsa's, known for its Bad Juan cocktail. Toby's Tavern and Mehaffies Pies, a Dayton staple since 1930, add to the local charm. More options are in neighboring Belmont or a few miles away in downtown Dayton. In fact, Highway 35, which runs parallel to the neighborhood, is a straight shot to downtown, which has many major employers. Commuters are also a quick drive to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the city's largest employer. Businesses along Linden Avenue buffer homes from the noise and traffic of the highway.
