A change is gonna come
Bagley is a neighborhood with quite an interesting history. In this pocket of Detroit during the 1960s, soulful music legends like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Motown Records founder Berry Gordy would gather around the kitchen tables in their Bagley homes to write songs and celebrate the success of new artists. Today, the historic neighborhood is a vibrant, colorful symbol of perseverance. Bagley is a neighborhood that has seen a lot of growth. "New homeowners love the Bagley area, aka the ‘hipster’ area with all the cafes and restaurants that have opened and with more on the way," says Mike Ayoub, a Realtor with RE/MAX. Ayoub serves several neighborhoods in the metro Detroit area, including Bagley. Its restaurants, small independently-owned stores and the new housing and retail developments beckon those looking for an active community close to the center of the city.

Taking a stroll to a neighborhood restaurant gives residents several diverse options, including the high-stacked corned beef sandwich specialty at Lou’s Deli, which has been serving the Detroit area for more than 50 years. Bagley also features the Detroit Pizza Bar, which serves up Detroit’s famous square pizza with that irresistible crust. Babybacks Open Pit serves old fashioned charcoal BBQ, while Detroit Sip offers unique beverage concoctions, many of them affectionately named after beloved spots in Detroit. Grocery shoppers can fill up their carts at Savon Foods Supermarket and Mike's Fresh Market.

The area is filled with beautiful homes, ranging from mid-century to Tudor, colonial, Gothic Revival, bungalow, cottage and mid-century modern architectural styles. Most of the homes were built in the 1920s and 1930s, when the area was a popular destination for middle-class families. The houses typically feature gabled roofs, large front porches, and symmetrical facades. The area also has a number of Craftsman bungalows, which feature wide overhanging roofs and large, covered front porches. Many of the homes have been renovated in recent years.
