Revitalizing community in northwest Detroit
Detroit’s Grandmont neighborhood is often called “The Home of Good Neighbors” for a reason. The closely knit revitalizing area is home to an active community association, annual events and restored historic houses. The small community occupies less than 3 square miles in northwest Detroit, just 12 miles from downtown. Established in 1923, the neighborhood began the Grandmont Rosedale Community Garden in 2009, and the Grandmont Rosedale Development Corporation has been rehabilitating vacant apartment buildings to create affordable housing in the area. The Grandmont Community Association helps preserve and beautify the neighborhood’s historic homes and publishes The Grandmonitor, a monthly newsletter where residents can find all the local news and community events.

Restored homes with unique elements
“Grandmont is centrally located, but the charm here is in the details of the homes. There are all types of properties with unique features you can’t find nowadays. The architecture is very special. There are colonials and Cape Cods, and the houses are on the larger side, with 1,500 to 3,000 square feet. Buyers get more for their money here,” says Charvez Miles, the Broker/Owner of C. Miles Realty with over a decade of experience. “Grandmont is a historic neighborhood. It’s connected to Rosedale Park, which is another historic area that does a home tour every year. A vehicle takes people to open houses, and people get to see the inside of historic properties. It’s a family-friendly area that’s steadily growing in value as properties are being restored.” Homes in Grandmont were predominantly built in the early to mid-20th century and feature steeply pitched gabled roofs, ornate wrought-iron doors and brick masonry. Prices range from $35,000 for a four-bedroom Craftsman bungalow to $285,000 for a 1930s three-bedroom brick Colonial Revival.
Grandmont's colonials often feature bay windows with brick or siding.
