Draper is a mountainside city tucked into the Wasatch and Traverse mountains, with well-maintained streets and easy access to larger cities. Salt Lake City and its amenities are just 20 miles north, and Provo is about 29 miles south. Suburban streets are lined with 21st-century homes, where most neighborhoods have mountain views and homeowners associations. Families enjoy the selection of schools and parks, while shopping centers and attractions are near Interstate 15.

Living in Draper’s neighborhoods and subdivisions
Multistory Craftsman homes are common, built in the 2000s and 2020s. Some have a New Traditional design, while others feature pointed roofs, stone accents and front entryways. There are also subdivisions with contemporary single-story homes and bungalows from the 1990s. Colonial homes from the 1970s are found in the city’s historic district. Prices range from the lower $600,000s to $1.3 million. Multistory townhouses in Draper are in the lower $400,000s to mid $500,000s. The median sales price for a home in Draper is about $920,000, which is roughly $200,000 higher than Salt Lake City’s median sales price. According to the City of Draper’s Economic Development Profile, the median household income is around $151,000. “It’s definitely a desirable area,” says Erica Buehler, a real estate agent with Cindy Wood Realty, who lives in Draper. “[The housing market] is stronger here than in other areas in Salt Lake City, and it’s trending to be a bit more expensive.”

Draper’s industries and transportation
Draper is part of a tech corridor between Salt Lake City and Provo. “You’re right around the corner from 'Silicon Slopes,' and that’s become a second hub of industries for the area,” Buehler says. Draper is also home to the headquarters of 1-800 Contacts. Other major industries in the area include finance and healthcare, like Lone Peak Hospital, which is located on State Street.
The Utah Transit Authority’s train station in Draper connects residents to jobs in Salt Lake City, Provo and Ogden. Drivers commute via Interstate 15.
Celebrating annual community events
Draper plays host to several events throughout the year. Draper Days is one of the more popular festivals, taking place downtown for an entire week in July. There’s a parade, 5k race, rodeo, live music and more. Holiday events include a Spring Egg Hunt, Memorial Day Ceremony and Candy Cane Hunt in December. “They do a beautiful display of lights for the holidays,” Buehler says, in reference to Draper’s Tree of Life. The Draper Amphitheater hosts movie nights and concerts during the summer.
Places and activities to explore in Draper
Draper has over 5,000 acres of open space and roughly 117 miles of trails. “One of the biggest attractions to Draper is our extensive trails system,” says Linda Peterson, Draper’s community director. “We have a large amount of open space, so the city has built foot-only trails, biking trails and equestrian trails to help people enjoy our beautiful scenery.” The city also has over 50 parks, including Galena Hills Park and Wheadon Farm Regional Park. The Flight Park State Recreation Area is to the south and allows parasailing and hang gliding.

Public, charter and private schools
Draper is served by the Canyons School District, which enrolls roughly 33,200 students across the greater area. In Draper, there are four elementary schools, Draper Park Middle School and Corner Canyon High School – all highly rated. There is also a variety of charter and private schools. American Preparatory Academy welcomes over 2,000 students for kindergarten through 12th grade, and Waterford School, in Sandy, is considered one of the state’s best private high schools.
Juan Diego Catholic High School is private and serves the Draper, UT area.
Corner Canyon High School serves over 2,400 students from across Draper.

Winter weather without any problems
Draper’s average annual snowfall is about 43 inches, which is on par with Salt Lake City’s average of 48 inches. The city also provides a robust snow removal program, plowing most main roads.
Draper’s selection of churches
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is popular in the Salt Lake City area. As such, many LDS churches are scattered throughout the city. Draper Utah Temple is one of the more notable ones. It was dedicated in 2009 and is known for its granite exterior and landscaped grounds. Other local churches include St John the Baptist Catholic Church and Corner Canyon Church.
