The plateaus of Cagle Mountain and Fredonia Mountain sit side by side, with roads running up the slopes from the town of Dunlap to the community of Cagle-Fredonia. The quaint, rural character of the area has always attracted residents wanting a little more peace and privacy. But as newer gated communities and clubs grow, Cagle-Fredonia increasingly offers an upscale mountain lifestyle. “It’s being discovered,” says George Hamilton, the owner of George Hamilton Real Estate and Management Company and a lifelong resident of Sequatchie County. “It used to be a mountainous area with lots of woodlands and few people, but now we have homes being built and a lot of new people moving in. But it’s still got some character to it of a rural area.” While scattered houses sit alongside Tennessee Highway 111 or Fredonia Road, most homes in the area sit within gated communities such as the Fredonia Mountain Nature Resort. The more modest cabins and farmhouses can go from the low $300,000s to $600,000, while upscale estates often sell from the $800,000s to $1.5 million. Homes on significant acreage — some including more than 200 acres of property — can sell between $1.5 million and $4 million.
