A quiet neighborhood next to various amenities
Nichols Corner, a quiet neighborhood in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, named after the Nichols family, one of the earliest settlers in the state. The land in this area was initially used for agricultural purposes but was slowly transformed into different residential communities over time. While the farm from that time is long gone, locals can still see hints of the past in the neighborhood's large plot sizes, winding roads, and leafy trees & shrubs. "This is one of those neighborhoods that clearly wasn't planned around a grid system," says Realtor and Rhode Island resident Alessandra Alvarez. "It's very charming because the houses are all over the place, and there's a bunch of dead ends and cul-de-sacs to get lost in." The neighborhood is also close to Main Street, an area lined with some of the best shops and restaurants around. For more amenities, residents can take I-95 into Providence and Warwick. "That's what's nice about living here — it's suburban with a cute downtown, but you have Providence and Warwick nearby for the airport and city life. You can also drive down to South County, which I think has some of the best beaches," Alvarez says.

Top performing East Greenwich District schools
One of the neighborhood's best features is its proximity to top-performing schools. "We've got amazing schools," Alvarez says. "Many families choose to live here because they know their kid is going to get the best education, and it's all public, too." Schools fall under the East Greenwich School District: George Hannaford Elementary School, Archie R Cole Middle School, and East Greenwich High School. They all receive A's overall from Niche. East Greenwich High School is one of the highest-performing schools in the state. It also has two prominent student publications: The Spectrum, a newspaper founded in 1976, and The Crimson, a yearbook that's been around since 1942.

A mix of architectural styles to choose from
There's a mix of housing styles in Nichols Corner. "There's going to be everything from ranch-styles to large, center-hall colonials," Alvarez says. "I would say entry-level prices start at around $650,000 and cut off around $1.3 million." Houses come with plenty of greenery, which adds an extra level of privacy and doubles as decoration. Lot sizes tend to be larger, about one acre in total. Alvarez: "The neighborhood feels more secluded because it's not on a grid system. You won't have people cutting through to get to another town." There are no sidewalks, but people still regularly walk or bike. "There's always kids zooming around on their scooters or bikes, because there's so much room," Alvarez says.

Upscale seafood restaurants on Main Street
Main Street is home to some of the most popular shopping and dining options in East Greenwich. "It's a really cute area," Alvarez says. "It's all these little shops right next to each other on a walkable street. There are boutiques, coffee shops, great bars. There's a bunch of places to check out. It's where everyone goes to eat." One of her favorites is Greenwich Bay Oyster Bar, with its marine-themed decor. Alvarez also recommends Blu on The Water for fine dining overlooking the bay, or for craft cocktails while enjoying live music. Groceries and other essentials are available at the Stop & Shop supermarket, among other stores.
