Riverside is a well-established Elkhart neighborhood on the western bank of the Lower Saint Joseph River. It’s one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods and is known for its unique collection of architectural styles, including bungalows, Craftsman, Colonial Revival and Prairie-style homes. Many properties were built during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and mature trees provide a tranquil, shaded environment. The Bower Street Bridge connects Riverside to downtown Elkhart, a hub for shops, restaurants and entertainment. The city center is also a destination for festivities like the Elkhart Grand Prix and the Elkhart Jazz Festival. While Riverside is pedestrian-friendly with well-maintained sidewalks, the Bower Street Bridge lacks shoulders for walkers or cyclists. Public transportation is available via the Interurban Trolley Green Line, which has stops on Michigan Avenue.
