Lakeside parks and quiet streets define Forest Lake living
Forest Lake is an unincorporated region in Illinois, with neighboring villages of Lake Zurich to the west and Hawthorn Woods to the east. The most notable features of the community are the namesake lake which encompasses a large portion of this region, and the four public parks that are situated along the lake’s shores, creating a sense of tranquility, which makes up the distinct appeal that is Forest Lake. Although off the beaten path, this community offers residents a quiet day-to-day life without comprising access to modern amenities.
Home styles range from 1930s charm to modern lakefront builds
The community presents a broad spectrum of home styles to cater to various preferences. Whether potential homebuyers gravitate toward newly refreshed homes built in the 1930s or ‘40s or immaculate newer builds, this neighborhood has a multitude of buying options. Many homes have waterfront access or a scenic view from their backyards. Because the community has characteristics of a rural region, it is accessible by car. The residential roads have no formal sidewalks; however, many drivers share the road with residents out for an early morning or afternoon stroll, dog walkers and joggers alike. Prospective homebuyers can expect to pay between $290,000 to $950,000.
Highly rated schools in nearby towns
Students attend schools in the neighboring regions of Lake Zurich, Long Grove and Prairie View. May Whitney Elementary School and Lake Zurich Middle School North Campus, which both have a Niche score of an A, provide a strong educational foundation before students move on to Lake Zurich High School. Lake Zurich High earns a Niche score of an A, with academics, sports and teachers receiving the highest accolades. The school has a strong performing arts program, with an impressive Performing Arts Center. Students perform stage plays and holiday musicals, such as Elf Jr.
Lakeside parks and community events bring residents together
Surrounding the community’s eponymous lake, are several public parks for residents to enjoy. Steinken Park is a favored recreational area for its panoramic lake views, sandcastle building and lounging in the grass near the calm water. The park is host to annual community events, including the John Harkness Sr. Ice Fishing Derby, which takes place in February. Other events that residents bring residents together are the Easter Egg Hunt and Halloween Parade and Party. Nearby is Erker Park, a modest outdoor green space with a mulched play area and lake views. This neighborhood park sits across from and between private residences, almost blending in with the community, and making it easily accessible to neighbors.
Route 22 has local restaurants and grocery stores
The most convenient dining hub for Forest Lake residents is along Route 22, heading toward Lake Zurich. There are some well-known chain restaurants, but mostly the area is comprised of local favorites. Residents can start their day by grabbing a cup of coffee and breakfast at Stompin’ Grounds Café or Koffee Kup Restaurant. DiPiero’s Pizza & Catering has a variety of pies for lunch and Vault 232 Restaurant and Bar is an ideal spot for dinner, with its raw oyster bar and steak and seafood entrees. Route 22 is also where retail and grocery shopping opportunities can be found. Open-air shopping malls such as Oakwood Commons Shopping Center and North Lake Commons have wellness shops and grocers like Jewel-Osco for pantry fillers and fresh produce.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
