Oakhurst is a country-suburban hideaway
Historic Oakhurst's story unfolds as a meticulously crafted chapter from the past. The 1920's era enclave filled with vintage homes was originally fashioned as a country-suburban escape for businessmen working in the city. “Its main draw is still its proximity to downtown. You could be there in 5 minutes,” adds Nathan Pinkerton who sells homes in Oakhurst through The Sales Team, Realtors DFW. “To have a neighborhood filled with charm with that kind of proximity to downtown makes it really appealing to homebuyers and revivers. Properties are being remodeled extensively.”
Though this suburb only has one small park, it emanates a park-like aura. Fluffy oak trees billow out like clouds along streets named after honeysuckle and primrose flowers. Just 3 miles northeast of Fort Worth, Oakhurst also settles right beside Interstate 35, making for convenient trips across the metroplex.

Finding a home in Oakhurst
In Oakhurst, an eclectic mix of properties live in stride with its tall trees, from craftsmans and bungalows, to Tudor-styles, American Traditionals and ranch-style properties. Old-world architectural details include sandstone veneer, cottage windows, iron decorations and brick front porches that keep bare feet cooler during the summer. Most of the neighborhood is shaded thanks to the trees that fill out the lawns.
Many homes have been completely refinished with highly modern or cottage-core interiors; some maintain original stained-glass windows and hardwood floors. “If you get into some houses that are on the western edge you get incredible views of downtown,” Pinkerton says. A renovated under 2,000 square foot home with a detached garage might fetch $320,000 in Oakhurst. The most expensive residences are in the $400,000 range and nearly 3,000 square feet. Properties currently spend 60 days on the market. “Interest rates are slowing things down across the board,” Pinkerton adds.
Some Oakhurst homes are newly renovated, but maintain their historic charm.

Friends of Oakhurst Park
Oakhurst's tiny namesake park is tucked between neighborhood streets. It has a small playground with a merry-go-round and parrot spring riders. In 2015, the city of Fort Worth made a change in policy and decided it would not irrigate neighborhood parks anymore. Local residents formed Friends of Oakhurst Park and began taking care of the park themselves. They have added artwork to the park, painted benches and organize events for community members.

Dining along North Sylvania Avenue
“Because the neighborhood is historic, there isn’t a ton of shopping in the immediate area,” Pinkerton shares.” Still, Oakhurst residents have convenient access to a Walmart Supercenter just minutes away on Jacksboro Highway whenever they need to run errands, and restaurants like Micas Taqueria line North Sylvania Avenue. With Interstate 35 close by, commuting is convenient throughout the Metroplex.
