A convenient, peaceful suburb of Rochester
Popular local theory says that Greece was named in support of the European country that was battling for its independence from the Ottoman Empire around the time the town was incorporated. “Greece was initially established in 1822 as an extension of the town of Gates,” says Keith Suhr, Greece’s town historian. “It was largely an agricultural municipality until Kodak moved near the area and created industrial jobs.” Kodak Park, which is now called Eastman Business Park, still employs thousands of people in Rochester. Today, Greece has expanded into a large suburb of Rochester. Commercial corridors with well-known stores, neat subdivisions and public green spaces make up much of the town, creating a relaxed, suburban atmosphere.

Green spaces and jogging trails along the Erie Canal
There are 14 public parks throughout Greece, many of which have playgrounds, large green spaces, athletic courts and manicured walking trails. The Erie Canal Heritage Trail, a 360-mile-long trailway that goes between Albany and Buffalo, runs through the area. Cyclists and joggers traverse the trail as it follows the Erie Canal, enjoying waterside views of kayakers and boaters on the water. The northern part of town connects with Lake Ontario, where locals go swimming and boating at public beaches. Its location in upstate New York means Greece experiences all four seasons, but winters are particularly long and snowy. The town can endure up to 100 inches of snowfall per year, but it's prepared for the frequent winter storms, and roads are usually cleared quickly. During the colder months, locals may exercise on the indoor track and gym at the town community center. The town also organizes regular fitness classes, like chair yoga, Zumba and cardio strength training. The Greece Public Library hosts activities like game nights and story hours.
The Erie Canal Heritage Trail, a 360-mile-long trailway that goes between Albany and Buffalo, runs through the Greece.
The Rochester Polar Plunge supports programs and services of Special Olympics New York.

Peaceful streets with Colonial Revivals, Cape Cods and ranch-style homes
Greece's quiet residential streets are filled with early-to-mid-20th-century homes. Most homes are ranches, Cape Cods and Colonial Revivals, which sit on small, grassy lawns. Some contemporary New Traditional homes were recently added to the town as well. The median sales price is about $230,000, which is a little over half the price of the national median.

The Greece Central School District serves local students
The Greece Central School District earns a B-minus rating from Niche and serves about 10,000 students in the area. High school students can earn college credits through the district’s Advanced Placement classes, dual enrollment and Early College High School programs.
Brookside Elementary School has 385 students in grades K-5 with a student-teacher ratio of 13 to 1.
Greece Athena High School serves grades 9–12 as a part of the Greece Central School District.

Shopping plazas with chain restaurants and stores
Suhr says that the development of amenities and necessities, like the shopping center and hospital, has brought further growth and employment options to the area. Convenient throughways, like Route 104, are lined with big box stores, chain restaurants and shops. Shopping plazas near Route 18 have a mix of chain and local restaurants. The Rochester Regional Health Unity Hospital offers medical services to the community.
The Mall at Greece Ridge features traditional retailers; Macy's, JCPenney, Dick's Sporting Goods, a free-standing Target, and an Apple Cinemas.
After a four-year renovation in 2014, Unity Hospital is now the only Monroe County hospital to feature all private patient rooms and free parking.

Public bus lines and state routes link to Rochester
Rochester’s public transit service, the Regional Transit Service, operates bus stops along the main thoroughfares in Greece. But residents mainly rely on cars to get around; State Routes 390, 104 and 18 wind through the community, connecting drivers to Rochester and other parts of Monroe County. For longer trips, the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport is about 7 miles south of Greece.
Lower crime rates than the national average
According to FBI statistics, violent and property crime rates in Greece are lower than national averages.
