A nostalgic suburb in northern Greensboro

Dating back to the 1970s, Woodridge is a forested suburb in the heart of northern Greensboro that displays a nostalgic charm. Shopping centers, expansive parks and all sorts of amenities are close at hand. "Living in Woodridge, you really have quick access to everything," says John Welch, a Realtor with John Welch Builders and Realty. "Plus, the Loop is right there, so it makes the whole area feel complete." Great schools are within reach, as are supplemental educational opportunities at the Greensboro Science Center.

1970s homes surrounded by a canopy of trees

Wood is in the name, and it's no wonder when most properties in Woodridge are dense with trees. Deep-rooted and tall, the area's trees form a canopy that shades residents from the sun, providing relief on sweltering North Carolina summer days. Homes that sit along the neighborhood's many cul-de-sacs experience this the most, hugged by the heavily forested corners of the community. Houses in Woodridge mostly date back to the 1970s and come in various sizes and styles. Spacious Cape Cods, porch-fronted ranch-style homes and classic Colonial-revivals all can be found in the area. Several townhouses and condominium units are also available at the lower end of the area's price range, which is $125,000 to $360,000.

A plethora of experiences await in Country Park

Country Park is just over a mile west of Woodridge and features many fun amenities. There are miles of trails to explore, playgrounds for the kids, a mountain bike zone and lakes that visitors can explore via a pedal boat. With over five picnic shelters, many locals hold get-togethers at the park. The park also features the Greensboro Science Center, an aquarium, zoo and museum wrapped into one educational and interactive experience that includes summer camps, afterschool programs and internships. "We offer sensory-friendly nights for our community members who may be sensitive to noise and light," says Tucker Campbell, the Science Center's community programs manager. "We turn the lights down low, and there isn't any music playing. It makes the center accessible to those who may be on the spectrum." The center also hosts fun events like Ocean Day, Shark Week and Winter Wonderlights. Local teenagers can participate in the Junior Docent Program or the Camp Assistant Teen Program. "We're always looking for volunteers," Campbell says. "It's a great way for teens to get involved."
