Harvey offers welcoming community with diverse housing
One of the original Temperance Towns, the early developments of Harvey mimicked the nearby Pullman neighborhood with one exception – that the residents of Harvey were encouraged to purchase their own homes. This resulted in a diverse selection of housing plans for Harvey residents. Aiming to become a model town for Christian values and prohibiting the consumption of alcohol, Harvey has progressed from those dry days into a friendly community.
Housing includes bungalows, split-levels and Arts and Crafts builds
Buyers looking for quiet homes will find them in Harvey. They can find a selection of bungalows and split-level homes in the area, as well as Arts and Crafts homes with low-pitched roofing with wide, enclosed overhangs. Some Harvey homes have ornate detailing on the outside that makes them quite the standout in the community. Many of these homes have modest green spaces surrounding them, and shaded walkways throughout the neighborhood. However, most residents do rely on street parking in Harvey. Spruiell says, “Homes are competitively priced and, in general, they have reasonable taxes in the area. You’re going to get more home for your money in Harvey.” On the high end, houses can go for $250,000, but the average home in this community is around $175,000-$179,000.
Harvey School District 152 serves the area
Those with children in this community are served by Harvey School District 152 for elementary and middle school, and students will become a part of Thornton Township High School 205 for their secondary education. Thornton Township High School invites students to enhance their educational experience through participation in social, cultural and intellectual activities in Wildcat Country. This school boasts a Diversity Club that is dedicated to bringing together various student communities to help build a safe and respectful environment for all students. For those looking for private schools, there is a selection of these schools as well in the neighborhood.
Dining options include Mexican and Greek fare
After a long day in school or the office, many can head to one of the nearby restaurants for a bite to eat. The surrounding areas of Harvey are filled with flavors that can fancy almost any mood. Senor Salsa is a drive-through Mexican restaurant, and while the line may get long, guests claim the food is worth the wait, loving everything from this spot’s tacos to tamales. They also have themed food nights like Taco Tuesdays and Wing Nights. Those who may need a cold one after a long day of work may visit The Entrance during happy hour.
Community has quick access to many interstates
While Harvey may not have the bustling activity of the big Windy City, Lori Spruiell of Baird & Warner says, “The proximity to major interstates and expressways is the top feature of this neighborhood. Residents have an easy time getting to surrounding areas.” Harvey is located at the junctions of many interstates ready to take you to your next adventure.
