A recreational suburb north of Houston
Walk this way to Klein, a Texas community known for its attractive subdivisions, highly walkable streets, top-notch schools and easy access to shopping and dining. “Klein has this welcoming small-town feel, but you have access to big-city amenities,” says Julie Pruski, a Realtor with The Marks Group through RE/MAX Integrity, and a Klein native and resident. “People grow up here, leave for college and come back and raise their own families. I actually did that myself.” The neighborhood throws many community events including a bike parade — since Klein residents love biking — according to Pruski. Outdoor enthusiasts flock to this area because of the nearby woodlands, just XX miles away. Those looking for a fun time outside of the area can quickly reach Houston by bus or car, or visit George Bush Intercontinental Airport, which is about a 20-minute drive away. In Klein, adventure awaits in every direction.
Tex-Mex dishes and trivia nights
City Place is a one-stop shop for everything residents could need. Kroger is onsite for groceries and daily essentials or visit City Place Plaza’s Farmer’s Market every third Wednesday of the month. City Place Plaza also hosts events throughout the month, like trivia night, movie night and fitness and dance classes to ensure there’s never a dull moment. Residents visit Bailey’s Restaurant for an eclectic dining experience. It features everything from Classic American cuisine to Tex-Mex to Greek dishes and also serves breakfast all day. After a long meal, diners can head to Chill Milkshake & Waffle Bar, which has a menu full of creative shakes and flavorful ice cream-topped Belgian waffles.
Highly-regarded schools in Klein
The Klein Independent School District serves children in the area. “People move here because of the great schools,” says Karen Wylie, a Realtor with HomeStart Realty and a Houston native. Kids can attend Benignus Elementary, which earns an A from Niche, before advancing to Doerre Intermediate School, which also receives an A and offers many athletic and fine arts extracurriculars. Students may advance to Klein High School, which is known for its prestigious music program and receives an A from Niche. Notable alums include Grammy-winning singer Lyle Lovett and Julliard professor Weston Sprott.
Brick homes with manicured lawns
The streets of Klein are lined with traditional brick homes and towering oak trees that shade manicured front lawns. “It’s a small town with many historic homes, which has helped it become a more established community,” says Wylie. Homes range from $200,000 to $500,000 and typically sell after 35 days, compared to the national average of 42 days. Homebuyers looking for more space will find larger contemporary homes with spacious lawns that range from $800,000 to $1 million.
Ziplining at Geronimo Adventure Park
Residents can add a little excitement to their lives at Geronimo Adventure Park by ziplining, axe throwing, or rock climbing. Skate Champions Roller Skating is fun for everyone, with beginner skate classes and themed skate nights, like blacklight glow parties. Neighbors also have a blast at Klein's many annual celebrations, like the Fourth of July parade, which Pruski notes is a very popular community event with local food and plenty of fireworks. People visit downtown Houston for many reasons — but mostly for its nightlife scene — which can mostly be found at nightclubs like Numbers, Blur Bar and South Beach Houston.
Golfing at Gleannloch Pines
Residents visit Spring Creek Greenway for outdoor activities like kayaking, biking and archery. Farm League Park offers areas to practice sports like baseball and softball, football, volleyball, rugby and wrestling. For indoor recreation, people head to D. Bradley McWilliams YMCA. Golfers can take advantage of the 27-hole course that Gleannloch Pines Golf Club offers. People can practice different religions at churches such as Faithbridge, North Oaks Baptist Church and the Spring Cypress Presbyterian Church.
Driving down State Highway 249
Commuters hop on the METRO bus to reach work and Houston, while drivers use State Highway 249 to reach the same destinations. George Bush Intercontinental Airport is 22 miles away.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
