Set in on the picturesque coast of Southern California, Huntington Beach, CA is recognized for its expansive 9.5 miles of beach and its ideal surf conditions. The city is the most populous coastal city in Orange County with an estimated population of 200, 809. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean and a number of other cities including Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Westminster and Seal Beach. Centrally located in the heart of Orange County, the city offers a wide variety of housing including single-family homes, condominiums, and town homes.

Huntington Beach’s central road, Beach Blvd., was originally a central cattle route in the 18th and 19th centuries, and was later developed by Henry Huntington, the town’s namesake. In the 20th century, the town began to boom when an encyclopedia company provided free parcels of land along with the purchase of a full set of encyclopedias. Oil was soon discovered in the region, and much of the economy was based on oil and agriculture. Today, much of the agriculture has been depleted and the oil dried up. While the economy is still dependent on some on-shore and off-shore drilling, it is now mostly reliant on tourism and a few large corporations, small businesses and some industry.

Due to the city’s booming tourism, residents are able to take advantage of a number of attractions and events. Downtown Huntington offers an array of restaurants from casual to formal dining and anything in between. There are also a number of retail shops that provide clothing, surf gear and other goods. The edge of diffraction in Catalina creates extensive swells off the coast of Huntington resulting in world-renowned surfing conditions, and the city hosts the U.S. Open of Surfing every summer. Additionally, the city is the location of several 5k, 10k, half marathons and marathons throughout the year. It is a highly active community with extensive beaches and a beautiful central park. Students typically attend the Huntington Beach High School District, but the community also offers a number of alternative independent study and vocational technical schools. Huntington is also home to Golden West College which awards associates degrees and provides transfer programs. The population is spread out in age and includes a number of homes with institutionalized and non-institutionalized relationships. The community offers a robust and diverse population. The city offers typical temperate Southern California temperatures with the summers rarely reaching temperatures above 85 degrees and winter temperatures rarely dipping below 40 degrees. Huntington provides a beautiful setting for its residents and is an ideal location for those with an active lifestyle.
