Why Live in Jetersville

On his way to surrender at the end of the Civil War, Robert E. Lee passed through Jetersville in rural Amelia County. Even today, many people still pass through this area on their way to somewhere else. History is still important here, and much of it is documented with markers along U.S. Route 360 or reenacted at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historic State Park. But for those who live here, seclusion is part of the appeal. “You have the privacy and the serenity of living in a beautiful, peaceful place with only driving 20 minutes to get all that stuff that you need,” says Janet Pembelton, a broker with Pembelton Realty who’s sold homes here since 1998. Farmville is 18 miles away, and Richmond is a 47-mile trip. Jetersville’s homes are on multi-acre lots spaced far apart among pastures and woods. Most houses here are ranch-style homes built in the past 20 years. Many have Craftsman elements, like front porches and front-gabled roofs. Some older manufactured homes, Cape Cods and Colonial Revivals are also available, including some dating to the early 1800s. Prices typically range from $230,000 to $530,000. Since the area is rural, most homes have wells and septic systems. Kids can
