Why Live in Morrison City

Through the middle of the 20th century, Morrison City was a lively community on the Tennessee-Virginia border, just north of Kingsport. A handful of small businesses centered on the busy intersection of Carters Valley Road and Lynn Garden Drive, and several churches served the community. However, in the 1970s, construction of U.S. Highway 23 led to the demolition of many businesses and several homes. Today, the bistate community is primarily residential, with churches along Carters Valley Road standing as reminders of change. The residential streets of Morrison City ascend the ridges on either side of Carters Valley Road. Many homes were built in the middle of the 20th century, commonly including cottages and brick ranch-style homes. Prices are often higher in the areas zoned for Kingsport City Schools, ranging from the mid-$100,000s to the mid-$300,000s. Homes throughout the rest of the community go for $100,000 to $200,000, with some fixer-uppers going for $50,000 to $100,000 based on condition. Morrison City’s location straddling city and state boundaries complicates its school zoning. Most students attend Kingsport City Schools, the fifth-best school district in Tennessee
