With a population of just over 40,000, the community of Land O’ Lakes is a quiet retreat in the Tampa metro area. This census-designated place is not a true city but is instead more of a gathering of master-planned communities around lakes--totaling more than 100 in the small community. Land O’ Lakes is primarily residential, but does have some public services like the Land O’ Lakes Library and Land O’ Lakes Recreation Complex. "It's really a bedroom community for Tampa," says Sam Caudle, a real estate agent with eXp Realty who runs the YouTube channel Living in Tampa FL. "It's an ideal commute spot with great roads into Tampa."

Lakefront homes in Land O' Lakes
Most homes back up to one of the many lakes that fill this area. Master-planned communities, like Lake Padgett Estates, and 55+ communities, like The Groves, are common here. "Padget Lake Estate has older homes and can have horses," says Caudle. "There is really broad diversity of homes there." The median price for Land O’ Lakes is about $415,000, with a variety of New Traditional homes primarily built after 2000. "Along Highway 41 is a lot of old Florida, lakefront charm homes," says Caudle. "And then perpendicular to that is suburban new development." Many properties have backyard pools as well. Additionally, homebuyers may have homeowners association and Community Development Districts (or CDD) fees. Land O' Lakes also has some new development under construction. "This is one of the few areas where Tampa can grow," says Caudle. "They're building a huge neighborhood with 4,500 homes." Pasco County is also known as the Nudist Capital of the World, with one location in Land O' Lakes.

Recreation complex and gated community spaces
The Land O’ Lakes Recreation Complex has both indoor and outdoor sport options, including a pier leading out into Gooseneck Lake. It is sometimes the location for different clubs and meetings throughout the year. Plantation Palms Golf Club is a public 18-hole course. Individual gated communities often have a community gathering space with an outdoor pool and social events throughout the year.

Pasco County Schools, and the best private school in the county
Pasco County School serves this community, earning an overall grade of B-plus from Niche. With 100 separate schools serving almost 85,000 students, Land O’ Lakes High School and Sunlake High School serve the majority of high schoolers. There are also some elementary schools scattered throughout Land O’ Lakes, and most students will take the bus or a vehicle to get to school. Land O’ Lakes is also home to Academy of the Lakes, a private school for children from kindergarten through 12th grade. Rated an A-plus by Niche, it is also rated the best private school in Pasco County.

Leaving Land O' Lakes for most shopping
There are some shopping districts along State Road 54, including Collier Commons shopping mall, which is home to a Public Super Market and several chain restaurants. Most of Land O’ Lakes dining scene is chain restaurants, although there are some local ones on Land O’ Lakes Boulevard. Natural Market is a smaller business that sells local produce. "We go over there to get stuff for our chickens and then there's chipotle," says Caudle. "Residents will get most shopping done in Land O' Lakes. It's pretty chain dominant overall." The intersection of the communities of Land O' Lakes, Wesley Chapel and Lutz is home to the Tampa Premium Outlets.

Traveling to hospitals and other cities from Land O' Lakes
U.S. Route 41 cuts through the community from north to south, with State Road 54 acting as the southern border of Land O’ Lakes as it moves east to west. It eventually reaches Interstate 275. The nearest airport is the Tampa International Airport, about 23 miles south. The closest hospital is AdventHealth Connerton, about 6 miles north on U.S. Route 41. The AdventHealth Central Pasco ER is about 7 miles west, and AdventHealth Wesley Chapel is about 11 miles east.
South to Tampa for yearly events
Tampa is about 20 miles south and has different events throughout the year. Some of them are more specialized, like Gasparilla Season where pirates invade the bay. Others are more common, such as a variety of athletic teams throughout the year.
