West of Flower Mound and east of Argyle, an award-winning master-planned community

Ten miles south of Denton and equidistant from Dallas and Fort Worth, Lantana is a turn-of-the-century master-planned community that's won the People's Choice Award for Community of the Year at the Dallas Homebuilders Association McSam Awards four times. Development began in 1999, and its first residents moved in in 2001 – today, it's a roughly 10,000-person community. It's centered around the Lantana Golf Club, a private club where memberships help Lantana residents get to know their community. "It's family-friendly and has a lot of amenities," says Argyle-based Realtor Naomi Jones. "There are miles of trails. There are five pools, two splash pads, a basketball court and a tennis court."

Live music at local venues and late-night hauntings at Goatman’s Bridge

A weekend night's never dull in Lantana, as The Bartonville Store brings in acclaimed musicians to play shows in a range of styles – mostly classic country but also blues, jazz and funk. The daytime restaurant and meat shop turns into a honky-tonk of sorts, where residents can come for dinner and stay for a show. On the community's west end, Marty B's also hosts live music on weekends. On Lantana's northernmost edge, believers in the paranormal explore Old Alton Bridge, which is believed to be haunted by a half-man half-goat figure, earning the spot the nickname “Goatman’s Bridge” from locals.

New traditional homes and Texas-sized estates

Built at the turn of the 21st century, Lantana has primarily single-family traditional-style housing, but the area's development hasn't stopped. Large lot sizes outside the boundaries of the original planned community pave the way for Texas-sized estates, with many buyers taking advantage of the opportunity to build their dream property. In Lantana, there are two tiers of pricing: the original homes, spacious in their own right but more densely packed, typically list for between $400,000 and $700,000, and larger homes in Copper Canyon, Double Oak and Taylor Oak generally sell for upwards of that, often in the millions. Acre-plus lot sizes and sprawling square footages set the price for these homes, but some prefer to be in the original section of the community, closer to parks and other amenities. The median list price in Lantana is around $625,000.
