Southeast Lexington's Belleau Wood isn't just one of this area's most optimized subdivisions; it's also one of the most affordable. A residential neighborhood, Belleau Wood is bordered to the east by the lush Belleau Woods Park and creek and most residents can walk to the nearby public elementary and middle schools. For shopping needs, a Kroger, restaurants and fast-food options are less than a mile away, while Lexington's biggest mall is less than 3 miles, or a 10-minute drive away. Belleau Wood is also conveniently located between Man o' War and New Circle Road, the two main loops that surround Lexington, which makes it easy for residents to get around. An active neighborhood association adds to this community's appeal hosting events like neighborhood socials in Belleau Wood Park.
Lower housing prices than in other Lexington neighborhoods
Housing costs in Belleau Wood are significantly cheaper than the average home cost in the overarching Lexington metropolitan area. "It's one of the most affordable neighborhoods in south Lexington," says Realtor Lisa Peel. "You can get in there for well under $300,000." Home values in the neighborhood range roughly from $275,000 to $350,000, and the neighborhood has primarily ranch-style and bi-level homes, each with its own unique character. "It's not a cookie-cutter neighborhood," Peel says. "There are many styles, a mix of traditional and contemporary."

Fayette County Public Schools
Students in Belleau Wood attend Fayette County Public Schools, which receives an A-minus grade from Niche and is also ranked as the second-best school district in Lexington by Niche. Students here can start out at Southern Elementary, which scores a B-minus rating, then head to Southern Middle School, which scores a B-plus. These adjacent campuses are just a mile away or a 20-minute walk from Belleau Wood. For high school, students attend Tates Creek, which receives a B-minus on Niche. Tates Creek High School is also known for its specialized academies. Ninth graders begin in the freshman academy before choosing between the academy of business, entrepreneurship, and education; the academy of design and engineering; the academy of IB and information technology; and the academy of medical and emergency services. These small learning communities break up the 1700 student population into more manageable groups of 300 to 400 students.
Situated between Man o' War and New Circle Road
Belleau Wood is a car-dependent neighborhood and residents rely on New Circle Road and Man o' War Boulevard for getting around. "Man o' War and New Circle Road are two of the main arteries in Lexington," Peel says. "One's the inner circle; one's the outer circle." Belleau Woods is also just 6 miles or a 15-minute drive from downtown and 4 miles or a 10-minute drive from the University of Kentucky. The neighborhood also has a Lextran bus stop that takes passengers to the university in 30 minutes and downtown in about 45 minutes. The nearest hospital, Baptist Health Lexington, is 5 miles north. The Blue Grass Airport is 8 miles west.
Belleau Woods Park and Proof Fitness
Belleau Woods Park is a quiet green space on the neighborhood's east side. It has a creek with a trail, a playground, tennis courts and colorful blooming flowers in the spring. The neighborhood is also home to Proof Fitness, a Lexington-based gym with personal trainers and on-site childcare.
Belleau Wood Park is the heart of the neighborhood on its east side.

Shopping and dining at Tates Creek Centre and the Fayette Mall
Belleau Wood has a shopping center on its eastern edge with a Kroger, Walgreens, Pet Supplies Plus and a mix of local and chain restaurants. New Shanghai Bistro is a small local Chinese restaurant where meals can be eaten in or taken out; Kyoto Japanese Kitchen sells sushi and hibachi, and Cinco De Mayo is a sit-down Mexican restaurant with daily happy hour specials. Fast-food options include McDonald's, KFC and Rally's. For retail shopping, the Fayette Mall, the largest mall in Kentucky, is less than 3 miles away and houses nearly 200 retailers. The mall is surrounded by big-box stores like Target and Walmart and a mix of strip malls and upscale shopping centers.
The Belleau Wood Neighborhood Association
The Belleau Wood Neighborhood Association puts on events like block parties, neighborhood clean-ups and food truck pop-ups at Belleau Wood Park. Each August, the association hosts an annual meeting to discuss the year's upcoming neighborhood improvement projects and closes the summer with an ice cream social.
