Surprisingly quiet in the suburbs of Baltimore
Despite Linthicum’s proximity to the Baltimore Beltway and Baltimore Washington International Airport, this community of rolling hills, green lawns and mature trees is surprisingly quiet. “We’re not in the flight pattern, so we don’t hear a lot of planes,” says Ben Ronsaville, who’s lived in the area for the past 5 years. “And we have a nice forest that blocks the noise from the beltway most of the time.” The fact that residents are able to enjoy the peaceful suburban environment of Linthicum without sacrificing convenient access to multiple nearby cities sets the area apart. Originally constructed along major railways in 1908, the community’s placement ensures direct access to Baltimore, Annapolis and Washington, D.C. – a significant contributor to the neighborhood’s suburbanization over the years. “All our neighbors are just really kind-hearted folks,” Ronsaville continues. “There are sidewalks and yards for dogs to play in. It’s quiet but we’re right by everything. There’s only so much more you could want, you know?”

Living in Linthicum
Homes in Linthicum are primarily single-family units, most featuring spacious open floor plans and Craftsman influences like low gabled roofs with exposed beams. There are a number of three-bedroom ranch-style homes with full basements that start at $400,000, 1980s split-levels with three bedrooms priced around $450,000, and a few two-story houses with Colonial features that rise above $500,000. Many houses have attached garages and sit on lots that are 7,000 square feet and up. “People here take great care of their houses,” explains Realtor Bruce Fink, a long-time resident. “Well-manicured lawns. It looks like a little train garden.” Mature trees shade the yards and sidewalks weave through the cul-de-sacs, connecting neighbors to one another as they walk dogs or host cookouts in their driveways.

Learning in Linthicum
Students in Linthicum begin at Linthicum Elementary School, which earns a B-plus from Niche. Linthicum Elementary is a National Blue Ribbon School and a participant in the Arts Empowered Minds Initiative, a program that creates arts-integrated learning environments for students. They then move to Lindale Middle, which scores a B-minus and is within walking distance of most homes in the neighborhood. Students finish at North County High School, rated B, which offers a wide range of athletic programs including bocce and bowling.

The BWI Trail
Andover Park, adjacent to Lindale Middle School, is a popular spot for outdoor recreation in Linthicum. This plot of green space features six baseball fields, a picnic area and an equestrian center complete with stables and a riding school. The park is also the starting point of the BWI Trail, a 12.5-mile paved hiking-biking path that snakes around the airport and down to Severn.

Camp Meade Road and Landsdowne Station
Residents have no shortage of options for grocery shopping, with Food Lion 1.5 miles away and Aldi another mile and a half on. Across from Aldi at Landsdowne Station, neighbors can hit the gym at LA Fitness and grab any big-box needs from Walmart. From spring to autumn, locals can pick up fresh produce at Vince’s Farmers Market on Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard. Camp Meade Road, directly in the neighborhood, is a hub of restaurants and small businesses. “We have Matsu over there,” Ronsaville continues. “It’s this little Japanese place that does excellent sushi. The black lobster roll is to die for.” Camp Meade Road is also home to The Luncheteria, a small-scale diner that’s been serving the same classic menu items for over 30 years.

To Baltimore and D.C., by Light Rail or highway
Linthicum’s convenient location has been a deciding factor in the neighborhood’s popularity. “We’re 15 minutes outside of Baltimore,” Ronsaville says. “We’re half a mile from Interstate 695, 2 miles from Route 295. And we have a Light Rail stop.” I-695 connects the neighborhood to all of Baltimore City, while 295 heads either north 6.5 miles to M&T Bank Stadium or south 34 miles to Washington, D.C. The Baltimore Light Rail has a stop in Linthicum as well, ferrying riders to the heart of Charm City in roughly 40 minutes.
Locals can get easily get around the Baltimore area with the light rail at Linthicum station.
I-695 makes Baltimore City and Washington D.C. accessible to Linthicum residents.

Halloween and Christmas festivities in Linthicum
Halloween and Christmas bring a special sense of joy to this suburban Baltimore community. “Over by Matsu there’s this one guy who just goes all-out,” Ronsaville says. “On Halloween he sets up a walkthrough haunted house thing and puts a projector screen over his house and plays movies on it. He does the same thing at Christmas – his back yard is just full of decorations and lights, and he has a Santa Claus come to take pictures with the kids. It’s all free and the whole neighborhood turns out for it.”
A true blue Maryland town
Linthicum is a Maryland town through and through, so it would not be summer without crab feasts in residents’ backyards. G&M is a legendary local establishment for crabcakes, and of course when the weather turns hot in late August, Marylanders will flock to snowball stands for egg custard flavored ice treats topped with marshmallow fluff.
