Quiet residential streets near Bynum Run river
The little neighborhood of Bynum, which consists of a few residential streets in Abingdon, is located right next to the Bynum Run River. The river runs through the area, and there are about four distinct communities that branch off Hookers Mill Road. Most homes here are new traditional styles built in the 1990s. “Abingdon is a little more affordable than Bel Air, for sure. You’re looking at probably a $400,000 to $600,000 average,” says Daniel McGhee, an award-winning Realtor with Homeowners Real Estate.
Locals benefit from access to Emmorton Road, which runs north to Bel Air or southwest to Baltimore. Emmorton Road also has several bars, restaurants and grocery stores. Students study at Harford County public schools nearby, and on weekends, there are several parks, trails and places to play sports outside. Though it may be a small neighborhood, Bynum’s proximity to nearby shopping centers and Interstate 59 makes it a convenient place to live. The CAP Index Score for Bynum is 1 out of 10, which is significantly lower than the national average of 4.
Nearby sports fields and the Abingdon Dog Park hill
Bynum Run Conservation area is a nature preserve with rustic trails that run through the woods and alongside ponds and creeks. Off Calvary Road is the Cedar Lane Regional Park. This massive park has about a dozen soccer, softball, lacrosse and baseball fields. The park also has a long sidewalk surrounding the perimeter, popular for walkers and runners who want an uninterrupted workout. Hundreds of locals gather throughout the year for tournaments and games, so bathrooms and food facilities are on-site.
The Abingdon Dog Park sits on a large hill and has two fenced dirt runs, obstacle course equipment and benches that overlook the landscape. There are no shade trees, so in the summertime, it can be a bit dry and hot. In the wintertime, locals use the dog park hill for sledding.
Bring your dog to Abingdon Dog Park for fun, exercise, and new friends.
Cedar Lane Regional Park offers a variety of outdoor amenities for the public to enjoy.

A variety of new traditional 1990s homes
In the neighborhoods off Hookers Mill Road are several low-speed limit streets that end in quiet cul-de-sacs surrounded by tall trees. Some houses here were built in the late 1990s as part of uniform planning projects. These styles include new traditional brick builds with two-car garages and private pools and several homes have columned porches, back decks and fenced yards. Wide driveways make way for basketball hoops, bikes and chalk drawings, and a few homes have lampposts at the edges of paved sidewalks leading up to the front door. These single-family homes often cost between $350,000 and $600,000.
Bynum features a range of traditional housing styles in a family friendly community.

Possible flooding around Bynum Run
Bynum Run is a somewhat shallow river that flows throughout the neighborhood, and a few homes have yards that extend near it. First Street flood maps show that Bynum Run can flood or overflow during heavy rainfall. Because of this, some lenders may require the purchase of flood insurance.
Shops and restaurants on Emmorton Road
Bynum residents head west to Emmorton Road to reach dozens of shops and restaurants, as well as other amenities like Giant Pharmacy or Canton Car Wash. Locally owned spots like Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard or Conrad's Seafood Restaurant are close by, so drivers don’t have to head to Bel Air or Baltimore. “Bacco is an amazing Italian restaurant and Box Hill Pizzeria is known worldwide for their crab cakes. They ship them all over the world,” McGhee says. “They’re family owned, and I’ve been going to that place since I was little when it was just a tiny pizzeria.”
Emmorton Road’s variety of grocery stores, such as Wegmans and Giant Food, and a few chain restaurants like Wendy’s, Dunkin’ and Panera Bread, make for a convenient shopping and dining area just 2 miles west of most Bynum homes. Across Emmorton Road, just off Constant Friendship Boulevard, there are big-box stores like Walmart, Target and Lowe’s.
Try Box Hill Pizzeria and Crabcakes for flavors you'll never forget.
