Hunters Run has quiet streets near highways and shopping centers
Hunters Run is an entirely residential neighborhood in north Abingdon. Locals can spend their days walking their dogs and waving to neighbors, but the community is still conveniently located despite this quiet setting. “It’s not on a major highway or directly next to a shopping center, but everything you need is 10 minutes away or less,” says Steve Kuzma, a realtor with Weichert Realtors who sold several homes in the area. Just west of Hunters Ridge sits Emmorton Road, a bustling medical thoroughfare, and state Route 24, which eventually connects with Interstate 95 to reach Baltimore. Several shopping centers surround the two streets, including Festival at Bel Air and Harford Mall.
Prices are higher than the national median
Houses built between the 1980s and ‘90s dot Hunters Run’s sidewalk-lined streets, shaded by oak and red maple trees. Colonial Revivals, split levels and New Traditional homes are all common here. Houses typically have three to five bedrooms and garages. Prices tend to be slightly higher than the national median, with houses ranging from around $415,000 to about $700,000.
Commuters drive on I-95 or go to the Edgewood train station
State Route 24 connects with I-95, making Baltimore a 30-mile drive south. Depending on traffic, the drive can take between 40 minutes and an hour and a half. The Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is 36 miles in the same direction. Festival at Bel Air has a Harford Transit bus stop that provides rides between Bel Air, Abingdon, and the Edgewood train station, 7 miles south. “People take the bus to the Edgewood train station and then commute to Baltimore or Washington, D.C.,” Kuzma says. The station services the Maryland Area Rail Commuter Penn Line and Amtrak’s Northeast Regional route. Both lines typically reach Baltimore in under 45 minutes and D.C., 67 miles south, in just over 2 hours. The MedStar Health Bel Air Medical Campus is an urgent and primary care facility off Emmorton Road, home to several other medical practices. Aberdeen Proving Ground, an Army facility and Harford County’s largest employer, is 15 miles east of Hunters Run.
Advanced Placement classes at Patterson Mill High
Students can attend Ring Factory Elementary, which earns an A-minus from Niche. They may continue to B-plus-rated Patterson Mill Middle and A-graded Patterson Mill High, located in the same building. The high school offers Advanced Placement classes like computer science, African American studies and drawing. Harford Community College, less than 7 miles north, offers over 90 associate degree and certificate programs, including nursing, education and criminal justice.
Bel Air shopping centers and the downtown district are nearby
Though Hunters Run is in Abingdon, Kuzma says most shopping and dining is done in Bel Air. “The two towns are basically interchangeable, but Bel Air is known for having better shopping centers and restaurants.” Just east of the neighborhood, Festival at Bel Air is a red-brick shopping strip with stores like Shop Rite, Petco and Kohl’s. It also has chain restaurants, including Buffalo Wild Wings and Chipotle. Retail centers like Harford Mall and Bel Air Plaza, home to an Aldi and a Target, are available along the Baltimore Pike shopping corridor, about 4 miles north. Downtown Bel Air, the same distance away, has Georgian Revival-style storefronts filled with lively bars and restaurants. The diner-style Sunny Day Café serves breakfast all day, while Sean Bolan’s is known for live music and shepherd’s pie.
Hiking trail and youth sports leagues are popular in the area
Hunters Run is within 5 miles of several recreation spaces. For instance, Emily Bayless Graham Park has a mile-and-a-half-long trail stretching through a hardwood forest. Locals can also hike at Harford Glen Park, where a 5-mile loop circles around a lily pad-covered lake. The Emmorton Recreation & Tennis Center is a non-profit that provides batting cages and basketball courts for youth sports. Kids can join the center's football league, which has games at Cedar Lane Regional Park, and play on the travel baseball team, with home games at Schucks Regional Park. A few Chesapeake Bay beaches are about 25 miles southeast, including the sandy shoreline at Gunpowder Falls State Park.
