Nature-filled surroundings alongside the Shawangunk Mountains
Accord, located in southeastern New York, purportedly gets its name from the lack of one when renaming the town. Those in charge of renaming what was originally dubbed Port Jackson couldn’t decide on a new moniker, so failing to come to an “accord” ended up influencing what it’s known as today – though it’s pronounced a bit differently. From the roar of engines at Accord Speedway to the tranquil waters of Rondout Creek, Accord has no shortage of attractions in and around its location at the northwestern-facing base of the Shawangunk Mountains. “I think that there’s a lot going on in Accord that keeps people interested,” says Donna Brooks, an associate broker and managing partner of the Clement, Brooks & Safier Team at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Hudson Valley Properties. “There’s the Accord Market, but all the while, you’re still in your own personal retreat out of the city. That’s the appeal – you’re getting your little slice of nature in an oasis north of the city.”
Agricultural outlets abound
Residents shop for produce at Saunderskill Farms and Hollengold Farm. “Saunderskill Farms and Market is one of the oldest farms in the country,” says Alex Stier, a NYS licensed associate broker with Keller Williams Realty Hudson Valley North. “It opened in 1680 and has been run by the same family since.” Arrowood Farms is a brewery, restaurant and distillery all in one, while Westwind Orchard has tours and private events. Both put on live concerts, as well. “Many visitors focus on the agriculture because of the attractive farms that are open to the public,” Stier says. “You can see their organic farming methods and then eat what you just learned about with on-site restaurants, breweries and cideries.”
Rose Hill Antiques and Second Nature hawk well-loved items near Route 209 on the north side of the river. South of the creek, Accord Market is the primary destination for groceries. More shopping requires a trip to Newburgh over 30 miles south. “Accord is a bucolic hamlet that has a little main street with a handful of charming shops set in historic building,” Stier says.

Taking in short-track action at Accord Speedway
Accord Speedway is one of the region’s biggest sporting outlets, where racing fans flock to see several different motorsport divisions take to the short track about a mile north of the neighborhood. The quarter-mile dirt oval plays host to modifieds, Sportsman, pure stock and even vintage racing most weeks from April to November.
Resorts are popular destinations in the area, as well, including the Thousand Trails Rondout Valley RV campground and Mohonk Mountain House, a resort hotel that sits on Lake Mohonk and whose famous visitors have included John D. Rockefeller, several presidents and actors Kevin Bacon and Alan Alda. Skate Time patrons hit the rink and host parties at the facility in the southwestern corner of Accord.
Accord Speedway allows racing fans to get incredibly close to the action.

Properties with plenty of space
Homes are spread out and sparse within Accord, with some properties even offering 10 or more acres. “It’s spaced out,” Brooks says. “There’s a mixture of home styles, some beautiful properties. I sold almost a $4 million estate and a $400,000 house there, and they’re literally a block apart.” Farmhouses on spacious lots, ranch-style homes, craftsman designs and even some stone architecture are scattered through Accord, with residences primarily lining the outer edges of the neighborhood. Prices commonly range between $300,000 and $600,000, though some have sold for as low as near $200,000 or over $1 million.
Several houses in Accord sit on acres of farmland.
Smaller dwellings are available throughout Accord as well for around $350k.

Recreation at sports facilities or in nature
Two small parks sit close to each other on the south side of Rondout Creek. The Town of Rochester Park has a playground and ballfield, while Veteran’s Park has a pickleball court, but Accord residents find most of their recreation immersed in nature. Anglers cast lines or take small boats on the creek itself. To the north sprawls dense foliage on the outskirts of Lyonsville, and the Minnewaska State Park Preserve to the south has plenty of trails, activities for each season and overlooks the Catskills.
A portion of Accord’s northern half is occupied by INNESS, a resort featuring a nine-hole golf course, luxury hotel accommodations, dining and more on over 200 acres. “INNESS is a small boutique resort and golf course,” Stier says. “The idea behind the property is to be a community hub and resort with everything you need, located in a gorgeous setting.”

A quartet of schools outside Accord
Kerhonkson Elementary School begins education for students in Accord up through third grade, situated west down Route 209 from Accord. It receives a C-plus with Niche, and enrollment then moves to the northeast, closer to Rochester, for the remainder of schooling. Rondout Valley Intermediate School scores a C and hosts fourth through sixth grades, while Rondout Valley Junior High School garners a C-plus and serves grades seven and eight. Rondout Valley High School completes education for Accord students, receiving a C-plus. All three Rondout Valley schools are located on the same campus, and the high school’s musical offerings include a concert band.
Accord kids can attend Kerhonkson Elementary School.
Marbletown Elementary School is another option for young public school students.

A lone route in the neighborhood
Route 209 runs right through the southern half of the neighborhood, spanning eastern Pennsylvania and southeastern New York over a stretch of just over 200 miles. It passes through areas like Stone Ridge to the northeast and Kerhonkson to the southwest, briefly paralleling the curves of Rondout Creek within Accord. Highways and major cities are a significant drive away, though. “It’s sort of this charming, driving backroads charm that you have,” Brooks says. “You’ll see a lot of historic designations and things like that.” Kingston is about 20 miles from Accord, while Poughkeepsie is around 25 miles away across the Hudson. The state capital of Albany sits 70 or more miles north, while New York City is a 100-mile trek south, and the nearest highway is the New York State Thruway 13 miles east.
