A neighborhood from Akron's industrial past
Built by the Goodyear Tire Company in 1912 to give workers a living space with an easy commute to the company's factory, Goodyear Heights offers a window to Akron's past. As part of what urban planners call the Garden City Movement, the neighborhood incorporates quality single-family housing and greenspaces to create a healthy environment for what was initially Goodyear's workforce. This original design has stuck throughout the years, with the older homes and numerous parks being two of the community's defining features. Here, people enjoy homes from the early 1900s priced lower than the rest of the city and a wide range of parks just 4 miles northeast of downtown.

Goodyear Heights Metro Park has a diverse environment
One of the community's proudest features is its 410-acre Goodyear Heights Metropark, but there are a few smaller parks as well. Goodyear Heights Metro Park is at the heart of the neighborhood and is a special part for many Akron locals. "It has a fantastic sledding hill. It's where I learned to snowboard as a kid," says Steve Mosholder, Realtor and owner of Mosholder Realty. The park also has open fields, oak and pine forests, cattail marshes and a pond where people can fish, hike and play baseball at the nearby diamond. The southwest part of the neighborhood has nine pocket parks. They offer everything from open fields at Shady Springs Park, Para Park playground, or the Public Square Triangle Park gazebo. Goodyear Heights also has a public pool in the southwest side slated for renovation. In May 2024, the city government allocated $10 million to renovate and expand Reservoir Park's pool to include a 15-foot slide and 25-meter lap lanes. The city has yet to announce a start date for the project.

The Linda Theatre is an Akron landmark
Goodyear Heights' has a small nightlife and dining scene, but there are still a few local places to choose from. The Linda Theatre is next door to Reservoir Park and is among the neighborhood's most important landmarks. "I saw my first movie at Linda," says Coleman. "It's a big part of a lot of people's lives." Since opening in 1948, the Linda Theatre has spent seven decades as a neighborhood and city landmark. In 2023, a resident duo purchased the property, renovated it and added a café. Despite being updated, the theater still has many original features, such as a 50s-style sign and $5 tickets. Taqueria La Loma is a popular local restaurant for its attached Hispanic market, bakery, and Mexican dishes such as barbacoa and chimichangas. The nearest supermarket is the Acme Fresh Market between Goodyear Heights and Tallmadge. Other markets are in neighboring communities. The City of Tallmadge Farmers' Market is 4 miles northeast. The nearest indoor shopping center, Summit Mall, is even further, with a 10-mile drive northwest along the city's market street.

This neighborhood's homes are from the early 1900s
Goodyear Heights maintains its original 20th-century charm, with homes built in the early to mid-1900s filling almost every part of the community. "The market is phenomenal," says Adam Coleman, a lifelong Akronite and Realtor with RE/MAX Edge Realty. "Lots of people buy older houses to renovate them." Architecture varies from cottages to Colonial Revivals to Cape Cods and bungalows. Most lawns are manicured, with a pristine sidewalk running across it. Trees offer shade over residential streets and backyards, while homes near Goodyear Heights Metro Park border a wall of dense forest. Unrenovated properties from 1910 can cost as little as $40,000 while neighboring renovated properties sell for between $100,000 and $195,000. The newest houses, built between 1990 and 2010, mingle with the older homes and range from $200,000 to $430,000. "Goodyear Heights is much more affordable than its neighbors like Tallmadge and Ellet," says Coleman. The average home price is $124,000, more than $100,000 lower than the city average and more than $400,000 lower than the national.
