Wallhaven's residents are as diverse as it's local cuisine and events
Four miles northwest of Downtown Akron, Wallhaven's many restaurants and stores draw locals from all over the city's west side. "People love it because it's so diverse, from the businesses to the people. There are many different people from all walks of life," says Beth Rodgers, Realtor with Howard Hanna. "You see the community out whether they're walking dogs or children playing games." Here, homeowners enjoy a friendly community where memorable concerts, gatherings and demonstrations are commonplace. Drivers and bus riders can get just about anywhere with the neighborhood's access to three major city thoroughfares or travel across Ohio Via I-77. Those wanting to stick around enjoy everything from fine dining to greasy burgers and can spend leisurely afternoons in one of two well-rounded and shaded parks.

Prominent intersections and interstates lead southeast to Akron
One of Wallhaven's defining features is the intersection between West Market Street, Hawkins Avenue and West Exchange Street. While the three-road intersection can be tricky to drive through due to its complicated design, it provides almost unparalleled access to most of Akron. On top of that, all the roads comprising the intersection have bus routes running through them. West Market Street provides a straight shot to Highland Square's nightlife, downtown, Summit Mall and I-77 four miles northwest. Hawkins Avenue, which splits into North and South Hawkins Avenue at the intersection, leads to North, West and South Akron. Finally, west Exchange leads to Akron's hospital district and the University of Akron.

Tree-filled parks with courts and playgrounds are close to home
North of West Market Street, Hardesty Park is the local place for outdoor recreation and events. Locals around the north side of the neighborhood's center intersection live only a few minutes from the park's 18 acres of green grassy fields shaded by thick trees planted before the 1920s. A woodchip surface playground with swings and bars resembles a fortress of fun sitting in the park's center, overlooking a football field/event space in the south and a sandy baseball diamond in the north. Parents watch over all these areas from a shaded picnic place next to the parking lot. South of West Market Street, along South Hawkins Avenue, Elms Hill Park is a similar size to Hardesty, with similar amenities. With almost twice as much tree coverage, Families in and around the area spend hot days playing.
