Established community near Alamo Heights
Full of century-old oak trees, Oak Park Northwood is a suburban enclave in Alamo Heights, known for its art museums, small boutiques and locally owned restaurants. "It's wonderful being near Alamo Heights while still feeling like we have our own identity here," says Gina Eisenberg, president of the Oak Park Northwood Neighborhood Association. "What makes Oak Park Northwood so special is its community spirit and beautiful surroundings," she says, pointing to the neighborhood walkability to the Salado Creek Greenway Trails and Northridge Park.

The 20-mile Salado Creek Greenway Trail winds along the city's waterways. “Our parks and trails really encourage an active, outdoor lifestyle,” Eisenberg says. “One of our board members leads a group of neighbors for walks through our neighborhood streets.” Along Chevy Chase Drive, Northridge Park draws locals for playdates, picnics under the gazebo and morning walks along the trail. Additionally, Fit4Mom North San Antonio hosts stroller stride workouts for new and pregnant mothers at the park.

Alamo Quarry Market is an outdoor shopping mall with over 75 high-end retailers and restaurants 2 miles away.On Sunday mornings, the Alamo Heights Farmers Market fills the parking lot across from Whole Foods with local produce, fresh meats and baked goods. The Barn Door Restaurant & Meat Market is a family-owned establishment, opened in 1953, serving sirloin steaks and brunch through Dutch doors.
