Eudgemar
Neighborhood in Albany, Georgia
Dougherty County 31707
Eudgemar has midcentury architecture
Homebuyers will primarily find cottages and ranch-style homes built in the 1940s and ‘50s. “A lot of the houses still have original features. I have a house listed on Maryland Drive that has beautiful heart pine and oak floors all the way through it,” Cotton says. “Some of them have been renovated.” Homes rest along quiet, streets lined with streetlights. The properties commonly feature roomy quarter-acre lots dotted with towering pine trees. Prices range from $100,000 to $250,000. Eudgemar's CAP Index Crime Score is 5 out of 10, slightly higher than the national average of 4.Live Music at the Albany Civic Center and Veterans Park Amphitheatre
Downtown Albany is the go-to spot to hear live music. Since opening in 1983, the 10,000-seat Albany Civic Center on West Oglethorpe Boulevard has hosted internationally known acts ranging from Elton John to ZZ Top. Fridays on the Flint treats locals to free concerts from May through November on the first Friday of every month. The event series at the Veterans Park Amphitheatre also features food trucks and artisan vendors.Pearly's Famous County Cooking is a local favorite for dining
Eudgemar is bordered by Dawson Road and North Slappey Boulevard, two of Albany’s main thoroughfares. Dawson Road leads to Albany Mall, anchored by Dillard’s and Belk, and Albany Square shopping center, which has a Publix and Target. Dining options in the neighborhood include Thai Noodle & Sushi Cuisine on Dawson Road. Then there's Pearly’s Famous Country Cooking on North Slappey Boulevard, a mainstay here for more than 60 years. “Everybody loves Pearly’s. It’s known for its soul food and people love their breakfast biscuits as well,” says Patricia McCrory, a Realtor with HRP Realty, who used to live in Albany. “For something more upscale, The Flint downtown is really nice.”Biking along the Flint River at Riverfront Park
Eugemar Park on Maryland Drive offers a playground shaded by mature oak trees and open space for the kids to run around. Downtown’s Riverfront Park has paved walking and biking trails with views of the Flint River and a life-sized statue of Albany native Ray Charles playing the piano with his music flowing from the speakers.Getting around Albany
North of the neighborhood, U.S. Route 82 runs from the Georgia coast all the way to New Mexico. Southwest Georgia Regional Airport is 4 miles south. Downtown and the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, a 691-bed facility, are both 2 miles east. “For the most part, people drive in Albany. It’s pretty easy to get around the city. It just depends on the time of day,” McCrory says. “The traffic is a little bit higher when people are going to work and going home. Dawson Road can get congested at those certain times.”Westover High has a partnership with Albany State University
Public students can attend Sherwood Acres Elementary, Merry Acres Middle and Westover High. Part of the Dougherty County Schools system, the elementary and middle schools score C-minus Niche grades and the high school has a C rating. Westover High has a dual enrollment program with Albany State University that allows students to earn college credits.
