Residents have their own private lake in Merry Acres
Merry Acres is a quiet, established Albany neighborhood that’s home to Merry Acres Middle School and St. Teresa's Catholic School. “There’s a really strong family atmosphere in that area,” says Lauren Watson, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker/Walden & Kirkland, who lives in Albany. “It’s a pretty big neighborhood, but the kids who live close by can walk to school. There’s a private lake in the neighborhood and people get together there and go fishing.” In addition to Pine Lake, Merry Acres residents have their own pocket park and easy access to shopping and dining along Dawson Road.
Merry Acres offers plenty of land
Ranch homes and Colonial Revivals built from the 1960s through the 1990s are the dominant styles in Merry Acres. Houses sit far back from the narrow streets on spacious lots of nearly an acre. Properties are peppered with towering pine and oak trees strewn with Spanish moss. “All the homes have great bones and nice-sized lots,” Watson says. Prices typically range from $225,000 to $325,000.

Dawson Road is one of the city's main thoroughfares. “We have some great restaurants around there," says Vickie Giles-Griffin, a Realtor with Re/Max of Albany, who grew up in the area. "Bianca’s is an Italian place on Dawson Road. It’s the greatest thing we’ve got. The Catch is another one right off Dawson. It has really good seafood.” The Manor House Pub at Merry Acres Inn serves as a social hub for the neighborhood along that strip. The popular bar and restaurant has double-decker porches and outdoor seating. "You can order sandwiches and stuff,” Watson says. “People go there after work for drinks or to play cornhole. You can become a member and use the pool at the inn.”
