Bel-Air in Northeast Albuquerque is close to shopping and I-40
Bel-Air is a neighborhood in Northeast Albuquerque, about midway between the Rio Grande River on the west and the Sandia Mountain Range on the east and close to retail. Interstate 40 runs on the south side of the neighborhood. "That specific area is just close to a ton of shopping. There's a mall that's right there, and it's not too far from the freeway itself, so you have easy, quick access," says Melven Louis, an associate broker with Albuquerque Realty.
Menaul Boulevard, Green Jeans Food Hall and grocery stores
Bel-Air is split horizontally by Menaul Boulevard Northeast, a major thoroughfare and commercial corridor. Dining options on Menaul include Mac's Steak in the Rough, an old-fashioned drive-in that opened in 1960. To the south, Green Jeans Food Hall is a marketplace created with shipping containers. The food hall includes Santa Fe Brewing Company, which has a taproom, Tesoro Arcade and a handful of eateries. The southeast side of Bel-Air has a Walmart Neighborhood Market, and to the west, across Carlisle Boulevard Northeast, is a Walmart Supercenter. South of I-40 is a Whole Foods Market.
Nearby malls like Coronado Center and ABQ Uptown
There are several popular malls to the east, within a few miles. Coronado Center is the largest mall in the state, with more than 130 businesses. The Winrock Artisan Market is held on Saturdays in the spring and summer.
ABQ RIDE buses, interstates and Downtown Albuquerque
Public transportation includes the free bus system ABQ RIDE, which stops along Menaul, San Mateo and Carlisle boulevards. Interstate 40 is south of the neighborhood, but noise isn't much of an issue for the majority of residents since they live north of Menaul. Interstate 25 is a couple of miles to the west. "You could just hop on the freeway to go anywhere you want," Louis says, explaining that nearly all of Albuquerque's prime sites are within a half-hour drive. Downtown Albuquerque, about 5 miles to the southwest, has the Alvarado Transportation Center. Commuters can take Rio Metro's New Mexico Rail Runner Express north to Santa Fe or south to Los Lunas. Amtrak is also available. Albuquerque International Sunport, the region's airport, is about 9 miles from Bel-Air.
