Jackson Area's location offers the best of Albuquerque's attractions
Jackson Area is a small Albuquerque neighborhood that puts outdoor recreation, shopping and dining all within quick reach. A 3-mile drive west leads to the lively Winrock Town Center, while a 3-mile drive east opens up a world of possibilities in the vast Sandia Foothills. While the nearby attractions are a big draw for homebuyers, the neighborhood appeals to those looking for a peaceful suburban lifestyle. "Buyers interested in that area like it because the homes have character. The neighborhood is more established and has a lot of families and retired couples," says Diana Leal, a Realtor with Weichert Realtors with over five years of experience. "The homes were mostly built in the 1950s or 1960s. Some of them have been remodeled, but they still retain that midcentury charm."
Established homes in suburban Albuquerque
Midcentury ranch-style homes sit on small lots in Jackson Area, giving the neighborhood a suburban feel. Many houses in the community are also Pueblo-style, with stucco exteriors, rounded edges and flat roofs. Most properties have driveways and attached garages. Sidewalks line the streets, connecting the front yards and offering room for a morning jog or an evening stroll. Yards are usually small, and trees are scattered throughout the neighborhood, providing some shade on sunny days. Homes in this community sell for $250,000 to $390,000.
Exploring the mountains and playing sports at city parks
Outdoor recreation surrounds Jackson Area. "A lot of people like biking and hiking because it's close to the Sandia Mountains," Leal says. The Sandia Foothills Open Space is an expansive natural area at the base of the mountains. This space covers 2,650 acres and has several hiking and biking trails and picnic areas. Visitors can stroll among oaks and prickly pear cacti while looking for wildlife such as mule deer, coyotes and black bears. The Open Space has multiple access points, and the Embudo Trailhead is the closest to the neighborhood. Other parks nearby include Jeanne Bellamah Park, which has a basketball court, playground and soccer field. The Jeanne Bellamah Community Center has a game room, computer lab and fitness center.
Chain retailers and malls just minutes from home
Several shopping and dining destinations are a short drive west of Jackson Area near the intersection of Indian School Road and Louisiana Boulevard. Winrock Town Center has multiple clothing and beauty stores, a Regal movie theater and a park. The mall hosts events, including a weekly summer concert series and a kids' science program. ABQ Uptown is an outdoor shopping center with high-end stores like Jos. A. Bank, Williams-Sonoma and Michael Kors. The nearby Coronado Center is an indoor mall with department stores like JCPenney and Macy's. Chain restaurants are common here, offering a wide range of cuisines. Closer to the neighborhood, locally owned restaurants like Papa Felipe's and Filiberto's serve authentic Mexican cuisine in casual settings. Groceries are available at Albertsons or Walmart.
Extracurricular programs encourage success at Manzano High
Students might attend Onate Elementary School, which earns an A-minus from Niche. Jackson Middle School and Manzano High School each receive a B. The high school has several programs to help students succeed, including the Lion's Den after-school program, which offers tutoring, mentoring and interaction with fellow students. The school also has a JROTC program, multiple career pathways and dual credit courses.
Convenient commutes on highways and buses
Interstate 40 is about a mile south of Jackson Area, making it a convenient spot for commuting around Albuquerque. I-40 leads about 10 miles west to downtown and provides a highway across the state. Ride ABQ bus routes serve the area, connecting riders to downtown and various points in the city's east side. Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital is just 2 miles west via Constitution Avenue. Albuquerque International Sunport is about 12 miles away.
