Mirabella is just east of an Air Force base and major tech employers
Mirabella is a contemporary subdivision, laced with green spaces and walking paths, conveniently located northeast of the Sandia National Laboratories and the Kirtland Air Force Base. Additionally, the Sandia Science & Technology Park, a collection of businesses that partner with the government-operated laboratories, is also in the area. “Everything I’ve sold there has been military-related,” says Gilbert Gallegos, a broker with eXp Realty and the team leader of Millennium Properties. “There’s also a 340-acre tech compound with defense research, aerospace material and engineering firms.”
Stucco New Traditional homes in a range of sandy shades
Wide sidewalks follow curving streets with a cohesive set of architecture in Mirabella. New Traditional homes with garages, largely built at the turn of the 21st century, come in sandy shades of stucco that mirror the surrounding high desert landscape. “If you drive through, you’ll see clean streets and quiet cul-de-sacs. It’s very well-manicured,” Gallegos says. Fenced backyards often have paved and shaded patios, while many belong to a homeowners association with monthly fees ranging from $10 to $50. Listing prices go from $300,000 to $385,000.
Athletic amenities at Manzano Mesa Park, and smaller green spaces
Manzano Mesa Park is an expansive athletic complex with multiple amenities, including five baseball diamonds, a soccer field and more than 30 pickleball courts, at the north end of the neighborhood. Children can scale the park’s shaded playground or head to the splash pad at the Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center next door during the summer months. Inside, the multigenerational center has an exercise facility, ping pong and pool tables as well as senior citizen-oriented activities. Orbit Park — part of the Sandia Science & Technology industrial complex — is not much more than a picnic table under a wooden gazebo, while nearby Ted Hobbs Park is a triangle-like green space with walking paths that cut through it.
The Caribbean Celebration at Manzano Mesa Park
The Caribbean Celebration kicks off at the beginning of every June with DJs, live music, Caribbean cuisine, refreshments and local vendors in Manzano Mesa Park.
Regional and national chain restaurants are nearby on Central Avenue
Homes in Mirabella are less than 2 miles from Central Avenue, which is lined with national and regional chain restaurants. Patrons can enjoy pizza, salads and sub sandwiches under Tiffany-style, stained glass lamps at the Dion’s Elizabeth & Central location. Golden Pride East is an Albuquerque-area eatery that opened in the early 1970s, specializing in fried chicken and barbecue ribs. “It’s a very popular staple in Albuquerque. They have a good variety of New Mexico-style breakfast burritos, and they have a good one with green chile.” Gallegos says. “My favorite is the lunch deal of two carne adovada burritos that comes with an order of fries.” More Mexican cuisine can be found across the street at Taco Cabana, another regional chain. Burger King, Jimmy John’s, Chick-fil-A and Starbucks are nearby as well, across from Costco Wholesale and The Home Depot.
More than 40 extracurricular activities at Highland High School
Children in Mirabella are zoned for Manzano Mesa Elementary School, which scores a B grade from Niche. Afterward, they may move forward to C-rated Van Buren Middle School before concluding their secondary education at Highland High School, which also earns a B grade from Niche. Career technical education programs at the high school include those geared toward health and human services, marketing management as well as hospitality and tourism, and Highland High also maintains a Navy Junior ROTC program. Gamers’ Club, outdoor adventure club, Model United Nations and piano are a few of more than 40 clubs and extracurricular activities also offered.
Eubank and Juan Tabo boulevards intersect with Interstate 40
Bordering the west side of the neighborhood, Eubank Boulevard travels north and stretches across most of eastern Albuquerque. It also intersects with Interstate 40, which commuters can use to access downtown, about 10 miles away. Southern Boulevard curves east to become Juan Tabo Boulevard, another major eastern Albuquerque thoroughfare. Two routes of the ABQ Ride bus system pick passengers up along the Juan Tabo and Eubank boulevards.
