Here, your really nice homes are in the $400,000 to $600,000 range,” Walker says. “Homes in this neighborhood usually run from $300,000 to $350,000. So, cost-wise it’s in the middle range.”

The neighborhood’s Compton Park on Wakefield Boulevard has a playground and paved trails that lead to a wetland overlook. The park’s hilly terrain makes it a popular exercise spot for joggers.
Three miles away on Masonic Drive, there’s the public nine-hole Historic Bringhurst Golf Course and the Alexandria Zoological Park. The zoo is home to 500 animals and at Christmastime it holds its annual Holiday Light Safari, featuring illuminated animal displays and thousands of Christmas lights.

Alexandria residents come together to socialize and support local farmers and artisans at the Alexandria Farmers Market. The event is held every Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., two miles from the neighborhood on Jackson Street. In spring, there’s Downtown Rocks, a free music concert series that takes place in front of City Hall. “There are lots of community events in Alexandria,” Walker says. “They’re always having different festivals downtown.”
MacArthur Village serves as a hub for shopping and dining
MacArthur Village Shopping Center is just east of the neighborhood. It offers familiar chains like Kroger, Petco and Texas Roadhouse. There are also some independent eateries just a few blocks from the neighborhood. Caro’s Authentic Mexican Restaurant and Sammy’s Crawfish King on Metro Drive are two local favorites.
