Deerfield is a 1970s-era neighborhood in Alexandria with its own pocket park that’s located just 2 miles from shopping and dining on MacArthur Drive. “It’s kind of on the outskirts of the city. You are out of the way, but everything is close by,” says Carissa McDaniel, a Realtor with EXP Realty who grew up in Alexandria. “There are no sidewalks, but you’ll definitely see people walking around because it’s so quiet over there.” While local teens are slated to attend top-ranked Alexandria Senior High School, the neighborhood’s location and relatively affordable prices compared to the rest of the city cast a wide appeal. “It’s a good mix of age groups,” McDaniel says. “You have millennials, Gen Xers and boomers living there.”

Vintage ranch homes reign in Deerfield
Homebuyers will primarily find brick ranch-style homes built in the 1970s. They come with roomy lots of more than a quarter-acre, peppered by mature oak and pine trees. Properties typically include carports and fenced-in backyards. “On Quail Ridge Road there are maybe eight duplexes,” McDaniel says. “There are some nice rental properties over there.” Prices usually range from $130,000 to $180,000. “The prices are pretty good. They’re lower than the median in Alexandria,” McDaniel says. “It’s an affordable neighborhood.” According to the CAP Index Crime Score, Deerfield’s overall crime score is 1 out of 10, significantly lower than the national average of 4.
