Shirley Park offers homes at a lower price point
Shirley Park is a four-block time capsule of midcentury homes surrounded by modern shopping centers. Residents of this Alexandria, Louisiana neighborhood have easy access to nationally recognized stores and restaurants ranging from Dillard’s and Planet Fitness to Kroger and Texas Roadhouse. “The homes over there are not as pricey,” says Adele Sylvia, a Realtor with Rhodes Realty and a longtime Alexandria resident. “They’re nice older homes that have kept their character. Some have been updated and some haven’t.”The neighborhood is also less than a mile from Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, one of the city’s biggest employers with more than 1,500 staff members. “A lot of medical professionals live there,” says Debbie Goynes, with Service First Realty, who’s been a Realtor since 1996. “Investors have been buying homes there too. They rent them out to traveling nurses or relatives of people who are at the hospital for a lengthy stay.”
