You’ve got Jerry Lee & Company for men’s clothing; Southern Accents is a women’s boutique and Schnack’s for fine jewelry.” In addition to being close to shopping and restaurants, Wilshire Park residents are 3 miles from downtown entertainment and 2 miles from Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, one of the city’s biggest employers with more than 1,500 staff members.

Wilshire Park is served by the Rapides Public Schools district. Students start off at J.B. Nachman Elementary, which earns a B-plus Niche grade. “One of the best elementary schools we have in the area is J.B. Nachman Elementary,” says Cardell Rubin, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, who lives in Alexandria. “That’s a big draw for families.” From there, students move on to C-plus rated Alexandria Middle Magnet and B-minus rated Bolton High. Home of the Bears, the high school offers dual enrollment opportunities with Louisiana State University of Alexandria.

Compton Park is less than a mile west of the neighborhood and has a playground and paved trails. The park’s hilly terrain makes it a popular spot for people to get their steps in or go for a jog. Established in the late 1920s, the Historic Bringhurst Golf Course touts itself as the “oldest par 3 golf course in America.” It’s located 2 miles away on Masonic Drive.
