For dining options, nearby Carrolltown's Old Farm Inn is a beloved local spot known for its welcoming atmosphere and hearty American fare, such as barbecue chicken subs. “I wouldn’t call it short of options, because there are definitely good places to eat,” says Smith. “But most people do probably head to Altoona for retail and things like that.” Groceries are available at Save-A-Lot, while Ebensburg features larger stores like Giant Eagle and Walmart Supercenter. Ebensburg also provides dining spots like Our Station House and Pour on Center, as well as specialty shops such as Mid's Candy and Gifts and The Corner Coffee Shoppe. For more variety, Johnstown Galleria mall offers major retailers and several restaurant choices.

Cambria County has events throughout the year. The Apple Cider Festival is particularly popular -- drawing visitors from surrounding areas to enjoy local food and craft vendors at Gallitzin State Park. The Johnstown Christmas parade is a highlight during the holiday season, with decorated floats and a visit from Santa Claus.
