Tucked away by Trexler Middle School
Named for the cemetery at its center, Highland Park is one of those suburban neighborhoods that may not be very memorable. Without any homeowner associations or specific neighborhood signage, Highland Park blends between one street and the next. This blending has an advantage, with its proximity to local schools and shopping. “As you go west in Allentown, homes get more expensive, so this is a great area for first-time homebuyers,” says Randy Beitler, an associate broker for Howard Hanna The Frederick Group. Most of the neighborhood is residential, but there is a smaller commercial strip on Sumner Avenue with a bowling alley, vehicle repair stores, smaller office spaces and more.
Highland Park has many mid-sized single family homes with easy access to suburb living.

Single-story dwellings and townhomes throughout
“It’s an older neighborhood,” Beitler says. Most homes were built between 1950 and 1970, although there are a few New Traditional homes built in 2023 as well. “More people own homes,” says Beitler. “There’s not many rentals in the area.” The area is plotted out with straight roads and similar-sized plots of land, with at least one or two mature trees to provide shade for each home and yard. Some homes may have more coverage than others. There are some back alleys where residents can access a one or two-car detached garage. Some of the back alleys have been left to grow over, leaving a strip of grass between blocks. Homes begin at $250,000 and reach $360,000. Most homes are ranch, bi-level, split-level or Cape Cod, with some townhomes scattered throughout. Townhomes generally sit closer to the edge of the neighborhood, although since the neighborhood itself is tucked between other neighborhoods, the townhomes remain in a residential area instead of on busier or commercial roads. Townhomes have a large range of building years, with the oldest being built in the 1920s. Prices for townhomes begin around $147,000 and can reach about $220,000.
