A vibrant community in the West End
About 60 miles from Philadelphia is the ever-growing city of Allentown. With its local businesses, arts, and entertainment scene, West End Allentown offers a hip and lively atmosphere and a quiet and tranquil suburban experience. “We have a ton of parks, like Trexler and the rose garden, popular chains like Wegmans and we’re close to all the major roads,” says Larry Ginsburg, broker and owner of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Regency Real Estate who has over 50 years of experience in the industry. “It’s the best situation you can ask for,” with convenience all around. Situated in the heart of Lehigh Valley and less than 20 miles from the rugged Appalachian Mountains, the West End of Allentown is full of verdant outdoor escapes with miles of walking trails and eateries that offer flavors from every corner of the globe.
A mix of urban and suburban streets
Just west of downtown, city streets display a range of rowhomes and duplexes that blend in with the historical architecture found throughout Allentown. Like most cities, street parking is standard, along with little yard space. Prices here range from $150,000 to $400,000, attracting buyers who enjoy walkable streets and proximity to local shops and restaurants. Further west, urban streets give way to suburban landscapes full of single-family homes. “People like Allentown because it has both a suburban and town center feel,” says Anne Geis, a local Realtor with RE/MAX, who has 15 years of experience. These properties come in all shapes and sizes, from ranch-style homes, cozy cottages, charming colonials, Craftsman-style bungalows, and so much more. Shaded backyards offer room for summer barbecues, while canopied streets offer leisurely strolls. Geis says home prices average between $345,000 and $600,000, while stately homes in Rose Garden and Trexler Estates range from $700,000 to $2 million.

Miles of meandering walking trails
Green spaces are scattered throughout the community, ranging from small pocket parks like West Park to vast forested grounds. Cedar Beach Park offers afternoon escapes for locals looking to cool off in the community pool or feel the sand between their toes during a round of beach volleyball. This park also features a basketball court, a large fenced-in playground, and walking trails that loop around the waters of Lake Muhlenberg. More scenic trails await at Cedar Creek Park, leading joggers and bikers along Cedar Creek and past Malcoln Gross Rose Garden for a tranquil escape. Trexler Memorial Park is another favorite, full of bike riders and dog walkers as they pass by a small pond, towering trees, old log cabins and the General Harry Clay Trexler statue. Next door is Allentown Municipal Golf Course, an 18-hole course open to the public seven days a week.
