North Park, Hartwood Acres Park and the Rachel Carson Trail

The community sits next to North Park, the largest green space in the Allegheny County Parks system. It features a playground, various athletic facilities and an extensive trail system surrounding North Park Lake. It also has a swimming pool and outdoor ice rink, making it a four-season destination for outdoor recreation throughout the region’s humid summers and snowy winters. Residents also visit the park for annual events like the Holiday Laser Show, Pittsburgh Dragon Boat Festival and North Park Half Marathon. One of its most popular festivities is Park ‘til Dark at North Park, a sun-up to sun-down celebration with plenty of food trucks, live entertainment and outdoor activities.

On the opposite side of town is Hartwood Acres Park, a former country estate where visitors can tour the Tudor-style Hartwood Acres Mansion and scenic Carol R. Brown Sculpture Garden. The Hartwood Acres Amphitheater is a popular destination for community events, including the Allegheny County Summer Concert Series. The Rachel Carson Trail winds through Allison Park, and the private Wildwood Golf Club features an 18-hole course. There are also several houses of worship in the community, including Allison Park Church, Memorial Park Church, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and Parkwood United Presbyterian Church.
