Celebrating the Texas Panhandle’s ranch roots
Amarillo is a ranch town at its roots, and Dumas Junction celebrates that history to its core. This neighborhood next to downtown Amarillo is home to the Tri-State Exposition, a year-round venue for rodeos and livestock showings. Next door, the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame celebrates the country’s most notable equines. While Dumas Junction celebrates its city’s roots, buyers are likelier to find 1950s fixer-uppers than large ranches in this neighborhood. These houses are located outside of the flood plain, saving residents from some of Amarillo’s unpredictable weather. Thick lines of train tracks and a prominent high school sports presence complete this quintessential Panhandle community. “We have people who come by who just want to sit and watch the trains, or maybe they want to explore outside of downtown. You can do either of those things here,” says Ash Jones, the marketing administrator for the Amarillo Civic Center.
The American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum celebrates famous horses and horse culture.
Dumas Junction is a rural area comprised of primarily single-story ranch and bungalows.
