Acres of land and industrial sites populate south Amarillo
Hollywood-Scotsman is named after West Hollywood Road, a major thoroughfare that forms Amarillo’s outermost loop, but the “Hollywood” in its name might also suggest a passing resemblance to a Western film set. Located in the southern part of the city, the neighborhood is a bit removed from the museums, dining, and retail areas of downtown. Instead, it has abundant ranch homes a few miles from industrial job parks, large tracts of land and railyards, fitting with Amarillo’s long-standing cattle, rail and agriculture industries. For buyers looking to spread out and build their own guesthouse or workshop, Hollywood-Scotsman has plenty of homes with multiple acres of land, a commodity that can be hard to find in the city's center. The neighborhood is also zoned to Canyon Independent School District, one of Amarilo’s best public school divisions.
Route I27 runs along the western edge of the neighborhood.

Hollywood-Scotsman has ranch homes with land to spare
Like many other parts of Amarillo, ranch-style homes reign supreme in Hollywood-Scotsman. Most homes are around 2,000 square feet, and several properties have 1 to 2 acres of land. Workshops or separate apartments are common add-ons for this extra space. A residence in Hollywood-Scotsman may start at $200,000 to $300,000 and can reach $500,000 to $600,000 for a home with additional land. “A $250,000 house here would be $500,000 in Dallas, I kid you not. It is so affordable to live here,” says Andrew Baxter, Realtor for Progressive Properties and Panhandle native.

Canyon Schools are top-rated in Amarillo
Hollywood-Scotsman is zoned to the Canyon Independent School District (ISD), which Niche named the best school district in the Amarillo area. Students can start out at Gene Howe Elementary School, which has an A grade from Niche, before moving to the unrated Randall Junior High School. Randall High School has an A-minus grade and offers a robust athletics program. The campus has large football, baseball and softball fields, and community members can purchase season passes for their favorite teams in “Raider Nation.” Hollywood-Scotsman is 11 miles from West Texas A&M University, which is most known for its nursing and health science programs.

Interstate 27 links south Amarillo to downtown
The residential neighborhood is about 4 miles from a large railroad that is surrounded by industrial employers like food packing plants, grain elevators and trucking companies. It is also 7 miles from the city’s healthcare district, which includes large hospitals like the Amarillo VA Health Care System and Northwest Texas Healthcare System, and about 6 miles from Tradewind Airport. I-27 runs on the west side, connecting the community to the rest of the city and all of these major employers. Due to its southern location, Hollywood-Scotsman is outside Amarillo City Transit’s fixed bus routes.
The southern side of the city is exposed to Amarillo’s infamously unpredictable temperature changes, high winds and dust storms, but is removed from the area’s flood plains. “We have more windy days than we have non-windy days, but it’s something that as you live here you just get used to,” says Derek Manasco, Amarillo native and co-owner of MPACT Real Estate. “I tell people who move here to plan around the weather, because you don’t want to be caught here during a blizzard or during tornado season.”
