Nearly secluded southeast Amarillo neighborhood

Lonesome Dove is a still-growing southeast Amarillo neighborhood almost hidden off Texas State Loop 335 North, known locally as The Loop. The community is part of the A-rated Canyon Independent School District, and houses here provide space between neighbors and the ability to build on lots as long as it follows deed restrictions. “You’re just miles outside of the city, but you get that rural feel,” says Sabre Cofer, a Realtor with EXP Realty, who has sold in the Amarillo market for 15 years. “It’s a really nice community, with each house having at least an acre of land. While it’s rural, the Loop gives it easy access to everywhere in the city.

Craftsman builds on at least one acre

Nearly secluded with only two ways into the community, contemporary Craftsman and New Traditional Colonials rest on at least an acre of land. The added space provides the opportunity for homeowners to build a shop. Prices range from about $310,000 to $475,000 for already-built houses, while vacant lots start around $60,000. “There are some deed restrictions out here,” Cofer says. “You can’t have mobile homes or a barndominium, but you can have a horse with enough acreage. The houses here are moving slowly right now in Lonesome Dove.”

Lonesome Dove is attractive to those who value space and want to custom build shops or barns.

Later, in 2024, a new Market Street grocery store will also open at the intersection of Coulter Street and The Loop. The Loop also provides easy access to the southwest part of Amarillo, which has big-box stores like Target, the city’s only mall, Westgate Mall, and restaurants like the Lazy Gator and 575 Pizzeria.
