Quail Creek

Craftsman and ranch-style houses on compact lots
Curved neighborhood streets lined with sidewalks make Quail Creek accessible by foot. The home inventory includes brick ranch-style homes and new traditional colonials and Craftsmans from the early 1990s to the present. Compact lots feature neatly kept front yards highlighted by trees that provide properties with natural shading. Backyards are typically fenced-in and homes have an attached garage on the backside of the property. Depending on size and condition, prices range from $230,000 to $570,000. “A lot of the market in this area depends on the price range, with more expensive homes sitting longer,” says Jinger White, a Realtor with ERA Courtyard Real Estate and nearly 20 years of experience in the Amarillo market. “However, it’s a stable market, just slower than we saw three years ago.” Quail Creek’s CAP Index Crime Score is 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.AP Capstone diploma at Tascosa High School
Quail Creek is part of the A-minus-rated Amarillo Independent School District, which serves around 30,000 students. The district offers school choice, so parents can select the school path that best fits their individual student’s needs. Children attend Woodlands Elementary School for kindergarten through fourth grade, while De Zavala Middle School covers fifth through eighth grades. Both schools get an A on Niche. Tascosa High School gets a B-plus on the site and offers an AP Capstone Diploma.Amarillo College is a local community college that offers associate degrees and other career certificates. It has several campuses throughout the city, with the west campus located in Quail Creek.
Exploring the almost hidden 9th Street Trails
The 9th Street Trails in Quail Creek are kind of forgotten about in town. The hiking and biking trail wraps through a densely wooded forest, leading to a rushing water runoff that provides a relaxing escape while still in the city. Across Coulter Street, Medical Center Park, often called Medi Park locally, is one of the city’s regional parks. At nearly 70 acres, it offers a walking trail that encircles Medi Lake, where locals can cast a line. Other highlights include a large splash pad, a basketball court and picnic areas. The park is the spot for the Amarillo Botanical Gardens and Don Harrington Discovery Center, a children’s science museum.Groceries and more on West Amarillo Boulevard
Residents just have to cross West Amarillo Boulevard to shop at the Texas-headquartered United Supermarkets. Big box stores, such as Lowe’s and Walmart, are in Quail Creek, as is the discount retailer Dollar Tree. This area is loaded with fast-food restaurants like Chick-fil-A and a few independently owned coffee shops like Roasters Coffee and Tea. For a night out, Downtown Amarillo has 30 locally owned restaurants 7 miles away. Some favorites include Gooney’s, Six Car Brewery Pub and Toscana Italian Steakhouse, which has a speakeasy-themed bar in the historic Barfield building. “It’s like a 10-minute drive downtown,” Goldston says. “There are so many restaurant options downtown and some nearby on Coulter and Soncy.”The Amarillo Community Market on Saturdays in the summer
Being a smaller neighborhood without an HOA, Quail Creek doesn’t have any exclusive community events. However, there is plenty of nearby entertainment from the Amarillo Ballet Company performing at the Globe-News Center for Performing Arts, to professional sports with the Amarillo Sod Poodles, a minor league baseball team. City Center Amarillo is a nonprofit that has helped restore some of the city’s most historic buildings. It also hosts numerous events to get people downtown. Each summer, the organization puts on High Noon on the Square, a midday concert series on the Potter County Courthouse Lawn, and the Amarillo Community Market held each Saturday on Polk Street.
Located between The Loop and Route 66
Amarillo is a car-dependent town, and Quail Creek’s location between Historic Route 66 to the east and Texas State Loop 335 to the west makes it easy to navigate the city. Route 66, also known as Amarillo Boulevard, is the main route for traveling the 7 miles downtown and 14 miles to Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport. Quail Creek is less than 2 miles north of the city’s medical district, including the Northwest Texas Healthcare System, a nearly 500-bed teaching hospital. The neighborhood is home to two places of worship – The Church at Quail Creek and the Islamic Center of Amarillo.Experience all the seasons in the Texas Panhandle
Amarillo has a wide range of weather, and the city experiences all four seasons. Summers can be hot, reaching over 100 degrees, while winter can bring snow and freezing temperatures. The city is susceptible to extreme weather like severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, flooding and wildfires. The western part of Quail Creek, including parts of Citadel Drive, is at an increased risk of flooding, and some federal lenders may require flood insurance.
