Big-name stores are close to home
The bustling shops and restaurants of downtown are just 6 miles away, but Northeast Anchorage gives you everything you need close to home. “It’s close to downtown, but it’s also close to DeBarr Road. It has a Carrs grocery store, and they’re close to a lot of gas stations,” Lambert says. “Fred Meyer is right there. There are car washes and movie theaters. It’s close to a lot of amenities.” The nearby Tikahtnu Commons has more shopping options, like Target, Kohl’s, Lowe’s and Costco Business Center. You can catch the latest movies at Regal Tikahtnu in the shopping center.
Popular restaurants in and around Northeast Anchorage
Restaurants around Northeast Anchorage include a mix of chains and locally owned spots. Muldoon Road has several popular Asian restaurants, including Samurai Sushi, Ding How Mongolian BBQ and Ronnie 2. The quick drive downtown offers even more options, like Lucky Wishbone. “Not only is the chicken really nicely fried, but they have homemade strawberry milkshakes,” says Janis Tolbert , an associate broker at Herrington and Company, LLC, with 20 years of experience. “Maybe not everyone is a strawberry shake person, but OMG. You get real pieces of strawberry in there.”
Hiking, golfing and fishing at Northeast Anchorage parks
It wouldn’t be an Anchorage neighborhood without a way to enjoy the great outdoors. Russian Jack Springs Park is just across Boniface Parkway and has several activities, including sports fields, hiking trails, a golf course and disc golf. The park is popular year-round, with one of the city’s most popular sledding hills. Nunaka Valley Park has more sports fields and playgrounds, while Cheney Lake is a favorite spot for kayaking in the summer and ice skating in the winter.
