Quiet living with proximity to downtown
Tuomy Hills is a subdivision of one of the city's most desirable areas: Ann Arbor Hills. The subdivision, which sits along Washtenaw Road, is very characteristic of the area, with unique estates on large, sprawling lawns. "It's a prestigious neighborhood and one of the only parts in the city that is completely secluded from highway noise," says Justine Anthony, an agent with Coldwell Banker who has experience in the area. With dense tree cover and a lack of sidewalks, Tuomy Hills doesn't feel like city living at all. But the bustle of downtown is just 2 miles away. That combination of quiet luxury and central location means Tuomy Hills is one of the more expensive places to settle in Ann Arbor, with a median price of around $1 million.

Unique estates on large, mature lots
The architectural styles of Tuomy Hills include stately colonials, storybook Tudors and a few low-slung ranch styles, with dates from the early 1900s through today. Homes tend to be set back on long driveways, with large lawns shaded by mature trees. Most homes come with about a half-acre, and streets don't usually have sidewalks, so there's an almost rural feel. Usually, homes sit around the $1 million to $1.3 million range, but some smaller properties needing renovations can be snagged for $650,000 to $900,000. "The beauty of this area is that even if you buy an outdated house, you will get back every penny you put in," Anthony explains. "When a house comes on the market here, it's always a highly competitive sale because it's such a good investment."
