Lush outdoor amenities and accessibility
Lake Julian is a lush natural area with convenient commercial frills. Residents live between a scenic waterway, Asheville Regional Airport and several busy retail hubs. Midcentury streetscapes roll by along the hills beside Lake Julian, and the plump crowns of old oaks cast cool shadows over these meandering roads. “It has a suburban, residential feel, which is attractive to a lot of families moving to the area, but it also has a lot to offer in terms of shopping,” says Nikki Freeman, a real estate agent with Asheville Realty Group, who has sold homes in the area for 3 years. “People can take their pick of grocery stores, chain shops and restaurants everyone knows.”

Lakeside park and mountain views
Lake Julian Park hitches to its namesake water body, an expansive natural landscape hedged with evergreens. “Asheville is known for its outdoor activities, and people who enjoy that lifestyle will have prime access to the area’s fishing and boating,” Freeman says. Locals travel here from all over for an afternoon sail or to watch their kids climb on the partially shaded playground. The expansive 300-acre park also features a disc golf course and picnic areas for people to relax. At the neighborhood’s southern end, the smaller Glen Bridge River Park and Corcoran Paige River Park also provide waterfront access to the French Broad River, used to kayak and fish. Many Lake Julian locals travel west to the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway to embark on wooded hikes leading to some of Asheville’s best views.

Classic ranch homes with grassy yards
Lake Julian residents tend to spacious, grassy yards on the peaks and valleys that form the region’s alpine terrain. New traditional homes cluster in stylistically uniform subdivisions with backyard mountain views. Homes start around $300,000 and can climb to nearly $1 million. Well-maintained 1970s-era ranch homes sell at the low end of the spectrum, and larger, newer designs inch closer to the million-dollar mark. Buyers will also notice an uptick in upscale construction west of the French Broad River, with custom builds and modern finishes.

Coveted Festival of Lights
Every year, Lake Julian Park hosts the coveted Festival of Lights to celebrate the holiday season. Bright displays of Christmas scenes fill the park with colorful exhibits that bring in the Christmas cheer. During warmer months, the waterfront green space is the scene of friendly competition during fishing and horseshoe tournaments.
1950s dining nostalgia
Take advantage of 99-cent hot dog Mondays at French Fryz's old-timey roadside diner. The counter-serve spot blends classic 1950s milkshakes and doles out burgers piled high to fill casual meals. Post 25 Kitchen and Lounge is a popular spot where friends meet on the outdoor patio for craft cocktails and comfort food. Plenty of hotspots pattern Hendersonville Road for errands and shopping, and most locals pull off at Whole Foods Market for weekly grocery pickups.

The neighborhood abuts Interstate 26 and U.S. Route 25, and most residents use a car to travel around town. Historic Hendersonville is 10 miles in the opposite direction and is a popular destination for weekend trips.
