Resort-style living in the mountains of North Carolina
The Cliffs at Walnut Cove offers upscale living among North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains. As Buncombe County’s only gated golf course community, Walnut Cove offers unrivaled amenities within the Asheville region. “It’s curated luxury,” says Monica Rousseau, broker-in-charge at Realty ONE Group Pivot. “You can stay here and live a huge, full calendar of events and amenities. But you’re nestled in a beautiful spot that’s so close to everything around.” Retirees, second homeowners and any buyer looking for a high-end community enjoy what Walnut Cove has to offer: a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, extensive recreational facilities, chef-curated dining and multi-million-dollar homes within a short drive of Asheville.
Custom-built, luxury homes with views of the Blue Ridge Mountains
The Cliffs at Walnut Cove feature sprawling, custom homes built between the early 2000s and today. Elements of modern, Craftsman-inspired and cabin-style architecture are common, and large windows open to views of the woods, the golf course or sweeping mountain landscapes. “The price range depends primarily on views, and the type of build it is, the age of the home,” says Shaun Collyer, Realtor at The Agency. Properties in The Cliffs at Walnut Cove have recently sold between $1.25 million and $5.25 million, and land lots usually sell for between $310,000 and $730,000. In comparison, homes immediately around the gated community tend to sell for less, usually between $800,000 and $1.2 million. Walnut Cove has a CAP Index Crime Score of 1, far below the national average of 4.
Upscale fitness and recreation facilities within the community
Six miles of walking trails wind along creeks and through the woods of the neighborhood, offering both leisurely and more challenging hikes. The 18,000-square-foot wellness center has a gym area, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts and a spa. “You feel like you’re in this secluded little resort,” says Katie Myers, Realtor at Realty ONE Group Pivot. The community’s centerpiece, the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, covers rolling acres of former farmland bordering forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway. “There’s nothing like it in this area,” Collyer says. “Every hole has a beautiful mountain view. It’s just in impeccable shape.”
The region has plenty more to explore nearby. Pisgah National Forest has over 510,000 acres of hiking, cycling, fishing and more among the fresh mountain air. The forest also has local landmarks like Sliding Rock, a swimming hole with a natural waterslide flowing into the creek below. The Blue Ridge Parkway borders the neighborhood to the north, where visitors can drive along mountainsides to take in views of valleys below.
A membership at The Cliffs covers seven communities
Property owners in The Cliffs at Walnut Cove can purchase memberships for golf or activities. Both include access to the community’s social events and recreational amenities, but the activities version does not include golf course access. These memberships also grant access to the six other communities by The Cliffs throughout North Carolina’s Mountains and around South Carolina’s Lake Keowee, each within an hour to an hour-and-a-half drive of one another. “You have a huge value for the amenities you’re paying for,” Rousseau says.
Year-round tournaments, clubs and events for members
Members partake in a range of personal interest clubs and events at Walnut Cove. “It’s a very active lifestyle community. Some of those people put me to shame ...These members are go, go, go, and their social calendars are packed,” Collyer says. Happenings include golf and tennis leagues and tournaments, wine tastings and themed holiday events, a favorite of Collyer. “They’re fun. Everyone gets dressed up and it’s a blast,” he says. Past events have included a Memorial Day carnival with rides and entertainment, a Father’s Day cookout and car show, and an “Oyster Fest” banquet with chef-made dishes.
High-end dining on site and much more nearby
Members and their guests of The Cliffs enjoy high-end dining on site at The Tavern, which features seasonal menus with locally sourced foods. For a casual bite between holes, The Turnhouse at the Golf House has quick breakfast and lunch options. For more shopping, dining and cultural attractions, downtown Asheville is 15 miles north, and downtown Hendersonville is 15 miles south. Ingles, Target and Lowe’s Home Improvement are also among the many retailers within a few minutes’ drive east of the community.
