Ardmore community with wide-open spaces
The Cedar Hill neighborhood of Ardmore, a small town on the Alabama-Tennessee state line, harkens back to a time when America felt more rural. It’s a place where the only restaurant is a buffet, and houses sit far apart from one another on multiacre lots. But that doesn't mean neighbors aren't friendly. “People still wave to you there," says Elaine LeFevre, a Realtor with Century 21 Prestige who lived in the area for 16 years. They still stop and talk to you outside of stores. They support each other.”
Ranch-style and Cape Cod homes on big lots
Houses in Cedar Hill are built far apart, giving homeowners plenty of space to call their own. Most of the neighborhood’s homes are set back from the county roads that act as its northern and southern borders, as well as Elkwood Section Road, which runs through its center. LeFevre says the neighborhood is attractive to people who work in nearby cities like Huntsville, but who want to live in a more rural environment. Cedar Hill is short on sidewalks, but long on highways, trees and farmland. Ranch-style and split-level homes often have brick or vinyl exteriors and come with two- or three-car garages. These homes can range from $190,000 to $490,000. Larger Cape Cod and Craftsman homes can range from $630,000 to $750,000. Cedar Hill has a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.
One of the rarer and higher priced homes styles in Cedar Hill is the Victorian Revival.
There are many cape cod style homes available in the Cedar Hill neighborhood.
Most of the newer construction homes in Cedar Hill are the Transitional style.

Mildred's Restaurant draws a crowd
The only place to eat in Cedar Hill proper is Mildred’s Restaurant, a buffet that serves Southern staples and has rocking chairs on its front porch for socializing. For everything else, residents head west into Ardmore. There, people can get groceries at Piggly Wiggly or L&S Food Market. Cassie’s Cafe, with wood-paneled walls and a checkerboard floor, is open for a homestyle breakfast, lunch or dinner. El Olmeca has traditional Mexican dishes. Pizza on Main bakes classic pies with a crispy crust. There are a few boutiques on Old U.S. 31 specializing in women’s clothes, like Bliss and Birch. For bigger retail options, residents can drive 20 miles south to Athens Town Center, anchored by a Bealls.
